Took my raddo in today as my 9a is ready to be slotted in, what power should i expect with following mods? Bottom end fully rebuilt, crank ground and polished, lightened fly wheel, sachs sporting clutch fitted and whole lot balanced, bores honed and new rings fitted. head fully ported and polished, new bronze valve guides, cams reprofiled to as near as poss to schrick 276s spec, flowed throttle bodie and manifolds matched to head, new tapets. new bk ur7dt plugs. Engine has been done by ex vw motorsport mech and he seams to know it inside out, as for fueling he will modify my metering fuel dist and do a wur mod. phew! any ideas please???!!!

If you're reprofiling the standard cams then you can't get the same lift as the real Schrick ones. With true Schricks you're looking at 200BHP.

    So I'd say about 190BHP.

That sounds like a top spec engine, I'm not too far from Preston and would like a 9a for my Mk2 Golf. Did you supply the engine yourself and they fixed it up or what?

Roughly what would it cost to get a 9a to that spec at this workshop (if you don't mind me asking!)? I would fit it myself :)

I'd agree with Joe, about 190bhp

If Newman do the cams, they can get 10.2mm lift out of a KR cam (stock lift is 9.6mm) Pukka Schricks are 11.2mm

Got the engine my self from scrapy, didn know the history so got the whole lot done properly. Thats with new big ends , new shells and so on. So far i'v paid him bout 13 hundred quid but thats for everything: all parts like clutch, balancing all other new parts and course fitting em, flowed head and all bits needed like valve guides and course cams reprofiled. Honestly the lads are tops and charges go by pounds, not hundreds! If someone can trust them with 120 k of rally audi quatro, the genuin all carbon and kevlar racer so can i with my rado! fully recomended.

How much is a cam re-grind? Autosprint in birmingham (used to advertise in C&CC) will do top spec for like 150 squid.

Wouldn't mind some for when I re-build my engine to 2 litre 16v

I always say, "who's got to pay for it, if you rag it from day one then it last 5 minutes?" ;)

I'd say take it easy* for 1000 miles, get the oil changed then a session on the rollers to optimise fuelling and ignition

*Don't labour the engine but also don't rag it, avoid letting it idle too long also.

Don't forget to break the cam in first, before you go running the engine in...... 20 mins at 2-3k in the driveway.

That engine would be great on t/b's but you'd need management for the best result. I agree with the 190BHP estimate too...
