Hope these make things clear Chris: The connector is 4 pin, hard anodised, alloy bodied MIL Spec connector, IP rated too...so should be spot on. 4 wires soldered on, then covered with glue lined heatshrink and wrapped in loom tape...4 cores - 2 x 12v power (1 for Cylinders 1 & 2, another for 3 & 4), 1 x Cylinders 1 & 2 earth, and 1 x Cylinders 3 & 4 earth. Then mated to a generic 4 cylinder Bosch type injector plug loom (from an Ibiza in the local breakers yard) and run through a 1.8T cable guide, which clips to the modified 1.8T fuel rail.
You may laugh... I've spent too long acclimatising to the temperature of my adopted nation, and too many winters stuck offshore, that the bright thing in the sky causes me much grief. I have the aircon on whenever the frost goes...it's a road car I have...hence air-con and heated seats! No, I don't need it. But I want it. Yes, I've gone soft...I'm getting old now.
Looks like its coming together nicely. Whats the target completion date or are you not sticking to one?
Target date was GTI International 2008. I'll maybe get it ready for Inters 2011. Maybe not... At this rate, there will be little left of my Mk3 bodyshell to actually fit the engine into.
Hi ess Really nice and well made mods Don't you think single coils setting might be better ? I really like the way you made the second injectors loom and the fitting of the extras loom Keep up the good work
Time for an update: These aren't going to be on for GTI International 2011...but then I probably knew that months ago So, the Badger 5 adaptors have been test fitted, powder coated and re-fitted to lengthen the inlets and curve them downwards clear of the underside of the bonnet: Many thanks to Bill for having these made...I needed two sets of the CNC'd adaptor discs due to previously completed fabrication work, but the set-up works a treat...get in touch with Bill @ Badger 5 if someone needs a set. This is how it looks from the side: The observant will have spotted I'm back up to 60mm trumpets...due to a sausage finger/interference issue, I can't actually get the nuts fitted with the 40mm trumpets on...so I'm back on the 60mms.
You really need to spend more time fitting these parts instead of cleaning that kitchen!! Is that special fuel hose?
Next, complete the fuel lines. I'd managed to get the outer injector rail working with some Ibiza 1.8T fuel lines...but the rest were proving hard to sort...I needed some VAG fuel hose in a selection of bend radii. A trip to Chez Danster and a rake in Herr Dansters European fuel hose mountain produced a suitable Golf Mk4 hose. So, now all the fuel lines are completed: Ibiza 1.8T Hoses, turned, swapped and re-orientated compared to standard. Top hose visible = Mk4 Golf. Hose behind = offcut of Ibiza 1.8T. High pressure fuel rates 'Y' Pieces and new VW clips fitted. From the front: And the filter still fits: So that's it all finished now. The AFB lines will join the 'Y' Pieces. The engine wiring loom is completed: The suplemental wiring loom has been made: I collected a spare ABF ECU from Herr Danster too, to butcher for a break out box for the Emerald ECU. Now, if I could only fix the current list of problems with the Mk3...I mmay actually get round to bolting all this lot on and getting it going.
Pfft!! Note the 16v style of posting, ie SLOW. If you had gone 8v crossflow this would have been finished by now. Love the OEM+ look that mk4 fuel hose has given the job.
If only every garage had a hob and microwave!!!! Looking good, dont think Ive seen that Mk3 for about 6-7 years now.
