I would disagree that there is no place for this discussion. Ignoring the issue of speeding and peoples attitudes towards it is like sticking our heads in the sand.

If someone sticks a poxy spoiler on their car everyone would pipe up and have an opinion on it. The end result of this is to moderate the 'vw scene'. The majority of people on this site prefer clean vw's as opposed to ned\chav modifications and this influence is felt.

Is it not therefore perfectly valid and good for the club to show that the majority of people on here do not condone speeding in towns/built up areas? Maybe that influence will be felt?

I personally know people who think nothing of sitting upwards of 40mph in towns. Any discussion which makes it clear that this is not acceptable can not be bad....

i started the thread. should have really put - anyone that does over 50 in a 30 is a etc etc. As even though 50 is silly, its silly for license purposes, not so much safety purposes as in not THAT fast. still fast enough to do damage. but in real world. 30-50 is done in a 30 limit.

also, i have finally realised why the insurance for all golf gtis and the variants are so high. itsbecause of people that think its either pointless to have a discussion about speeding, or think its ok to speed majorly cause they can 'control the car at those speeds etc', eventually crash or injure someone and then the companies put insurance up

always always thoughtsaxos, zrs, & novas were generallychav mobiles. now looking like any mobile is a chav mobile cause theres more chavs around than years gone and not enough types of cars lol.

more people will agree with the above than not so maybe all is not lost.

i'll try not to get too upset with the abusive replys but if it will make anyone feel better, type away

    This isn't hypathetical, it's fact I'm afraid.

Going back to my previous post - a friends daughter got knocked down my some muppet having a "race".

Regardless of what time of day it is, people still walk about in bulit up areas. It could be a p!ssed up old guy, staggering back home. There really isn't any excuse.

If you were a responsible parent (which I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you are) you would have your child under full control at all times when out for a walk and therefore there would be no danager of him running into the road etc.

I'm not saying that stupid kids driving cars or on scooters should be aloud to get away with what they are doing, but I do fear your slightly over reacting to the situation a tad. Or if it is THAT bad, then maybe you should speak with the police about the matter and let them deal with it...........after all the Police only seem capable of catching speeding motorists these days.

Driving over the speed limit and racing on public roads are two very different things, and I hope people are able to see and understand this. EVERYONE speeds, not everyone races.

    Cheers, Jamie

Now "this" thread is getting silly....

Im not a parent (yet) but I can fully sympathise with you Pete.

I think Pete is more worried about said "Oiks" mounting the pavement, rather than his lad wandering into the road Jamie ;)

    I speed. I would be lying if I said I didn't.

I do believe that there is a time and a place, and there are times and places that I will to do speeds in excess of 100mph.

I didn't buy a GTI to never go over 70, if I wanted to stick to those speeds I could have saved a lot of money and bought a 1300. So why did some of you buy GTIs?
