getting a gloss finish is'nt an issue Chris, but getting more of the same colour paint has turned out to be.. amazingly enough.

Local paint place has a swatch of the smoothrite hammer yellow and are mixing me up some to apply. More delays tho.

Got a replacement touch up gun to get in the small places after mine snapped off its trigger last night! doh!

had to replace an urgently buggered NF outer CV on MrsB lupo this evening, so no ibiza work tonight. noticed she's warn thru my 3mm ally skid plate and into the sump big time.. FFS whats she driving over! Sump has to be very nearly worn thru (again!)

Inside the ibiza is looking very bright yellow. pics when I get time and have finished the paint. (then the outside will need to be done!)

Mrs B will be catching the sump on the local supermarket speed humps, while car fully laden with pies for Mr B  ;)

I’ve painted the rear inner arches with Hammerite smooth in yellow, looks bright as feck, it’s almost a match for the inside of the car which was painted in the MG ZR yellow

    those darned pies...

MG ZR yellow is what I want to have it painted in.. much nicer and brighter than the rubbish SEAT throw on, fades and flakes off in sheets (lacquer)

The yellow in the tins now is mustard colour tho Daz.. bought 3 tins in different shops and none of them are nice bright (as it used to be) yellow.

Now I have had it confirmed ICI have dropped yellow completely from the hammerite smoothrite range. :o

Can't you pour everything you have into a larger tin & add some of that colouring you can buy at your local DIY place?

no I dont think so.. different bases to them I think.. It will overcoat (so they tell me) over the smoothrite, but I dont have much of the nice yellow anyhows.. only found the 250ml tin on my mates shelf. all the new stuff I bought in 250ml and 500ml tins are this mustard colour.

5ltrs on order from the local paint Co so fingers crossed its all going to be ok. they say its ok to go over smoothrite, but not direct onto metal as this other system needs a primer that hammerite did'nt. cage is painted now entirely, just building a nice deep rich gloss coat on it. then the rest of the interior gets is blast over too. - the plan anyway..

its had some more yellow paint in there now and is about done inside colour wise..

unfortunately the outside colour/paintwork is peeling like a mofo, with the lacquer falling off in sheets in several areas... fugly looking.. I cant bring the car out looking like this.

    ..........so

The shell now also needs a full respray (not budgetted for in or time)
We have to remove all the lacquer off every panel now..

friends bodyshop m8 suggested trying a fine airline nozzle to get under the flaking bits of lacquer as this sometimes lifts it off. and to DX the whole thing with 120/180 grit.

Any suggestions on what equipment I need to do this and where I can get it? I am not into bodywork... so not up on such things. Any suggestions gratefully received.

so much to do, so little time.

outside is rubbish m8... i cant bring it out again looking like it does.
its a poor reflection on the all the other good stuff being done.

race #1 will be unlikely @ this rate I know.

DA ordered this afternoon and 100 180grit pads.
being de-stickered has just highlighted how poor the paint is, let alone the flakes of lacquer peeling off it.

    and breathe............

I wont be at race #1 - just cant see it happening..
rear arches going to receive attention so I can run whatever rubber I want..

its going to be right, just not right now sadly..
with its development we will have some interesting times I think.
grippier tyres, more power, firmer chassis, new dog box, new plate 'tight' diff.

everyones raising their game for this year from people I've spoken to so we will be in for some good close racing.
