And I could have one by the end of the month [:D] [8D]

    I have two options:

    53 reg
    Full leather
    DSP stereo
    23,500 (no budging on that)
    2 1/2 years warranty
    10,100 miles

    03 reg
    Full leather
23,500 (but they will give me 1k off that)
3 years warranty (giving me an extra year on what's remaining)
    10,300 miles

Both are 3 door deep blue pearl so the only differences apart from price are the stereo and the reg. The 53 plate will cost me an extra 20 per month.

I drove the 03 reg today and it has quite a few stonechips, which they say they will do a good job on them. I've not seen the 53 reg yet, but apparently it has a kerbed wheel and they say they won't spend as much as they will on the 03 reg touching up the stonechips or repairing the wheel as there is less flexibility on what they can spend on it to make their profit. I put a holding deposit on the 03 until Tuesday, after I view the 53 reg.

So even though I really wanted a 53 reg and the thought of a good stereo is appealing, I'm thinking that the 03 is actually a better deal. I have a personal number plate anyway, so nobody will know what reg it is apart from me. I'll have to tax it myself, but I may try and push for a tank of fuel.

The sales manager bent over backwards to get me the best deal he could, and it actually restored my faith in main dealers. I even got a half decent deal on my Mk 3 as a trade-in.

what is the price of the ICE as an option from new ??

would you use it or think its worth the extra ?

Plates normal have around 500 difference between late 03 an early 53, depends when the reg date is on the 03 ?

It's worth 415 and TBH I would probably only use it till the novelty has worn off

The 03 was registered 14/4/03 so it's an early one, but not the earliest.

Oh decisions, decisions, six and half a dozen really is the stereo worth the extra?
I am sure the stereo won`t be on as you listen to 3.2 litres and six cylinders making sweet music [:D]
I never tire of listening to the VR6.

Would be interested to know the part ex price if you dont mind saying???

VW offered my mum 3500 for her 98S mk4 1.6 SE with climate and GTi rims, with 102k. I dread to think what they'd give for my car!

I drove one the other day and they are exciting comfortable cars. Take the 03 one (the one without the kerb damage) and enjoy it. Really I didn't realise the public sector payed so well - I must be in the wrong department! :)

make them tax it and get them to give you a tank of fuel as well.
Why not sell the mk3 separately and gain more cash from a private sale...

    Golfgirl - Sounds very exciting!
I think you know what I paid for mine (it's in totally perfect nick, no chips, wheels unmarked) and had 5.5k on the clock, cruise and leather. A bit less but then I got a poor trade in price for the mk3 GTi 16V.
I think they are both a bit pricey - Should be more like 20-21k. Even very minor damage knocks a hell of a lot off prices.
Do a quick check on Autotader for models advertised as trade and arm yourself with the info (maybe print prices off) - But you obviously get much better service with proper VW dealers.
City VW have been very good at following up on the sale of mine.
Sounds like you are set on one of these and they both look superb but I really think you could save yourself at least a grand. Good luck!
