Roughly speaking, in 5th with a standard VR box, the revs will be about 3.5K, and with a change to the 3.68FD this will be up to 4K revs. But the trade off is an increase in acceleration, and one that is very noticeable

Will - I shall have to drive it to see if that bolt I put it will stand the 'abuse' test, lol

Im with you now! Like the idea of a 3.68 FD and an 'overdrive' 6th as phatty mentioned, might have to look into 6 speed kits :)

Do you guys know if i can use a solid front mount with the VR6 conversion? Would i use a mk2 or 3 item if so, and are there any mods required to fit it to the MK2 subframe. I ask really because i have heard off several people including mr GVK himself that the 140 vibra ones are ****.

Also, do any of you guys who have used the passat rad/fans on the mk2 fancy fabbing up a couple more brackets? I have a passat vr6 rad/fans etc in the garage that i could quite easily use.

Must've missed this post Luke, do you still have them?

At last an update - picked up the gearbox yesterday, it's had a Peloquin ATB diff fitted and a lower 3.68fd fitted and a recon from gearboxman.co.uk - Only taken them since June 26th!

Car will be VR'd within the next few weeks....watch this space

Going to make it a little more of a hardcore track toy as now have the other mk2 to use as a daily!

You finally got the box back! Good stuff, get it all in and running. Should be swift and grippy with the diff and VR lump. You got any track days planned for when it's back on the road? Bittuva bargain for that 8v too!

    More progress this weekend.

Starting Saturday am, stripped engine, to replace all timing chains, tensioners and guides (guides were worn through to rivets and upper guide was broken ), new thinner steel head gasket, fitted 268 cams + new tappets, *light* Fidanza/Unorthodox racing? alloy flywheel, new VAG clutch then slipped on the rebuilt 'box with 3.68 fd and Peloquin ATB (after taking it off again to fit the release bearing and clutch fork.. lol!)

Fitted engine/box into car after chassis rail got 'adjusted' .... Fitted 02J shift tower in O2A 'box, R32 shifter lever etc and shift cables all fitted and adjusted ok. Clutch pipework connected. Air-Oil cooler (with new cooler rad) connected up in same place as it was on the 16v (used the same Mocal sandwich plate and braided lines) with a bit of jiggery pokery. 'Rado VR6 rad fitted in place.

Engine is pretty much wired up, needs manifold wrapping and fitting, and a few other bits and bobs sorting and it can be started.

Huge thanks to all the boys who've been working on the car, you know who you are! [:D] [:*:]

EDIT - Sorry no pics ( for a change!)
