How do i do this on my valver.....is it hard?? can i buy the filter from halfrauds?? how oftern should it be changed......i have been driving a year with this one
Personally I always buy genuine fikter Recardo. They ain't much more than Halfords anyway. Depnd son what sort of driving you do. I used to change mine evry 3000 miles, but nowadays as Icolock up less than 100 miles a year, I do it yearly anyway as a matter of course now. On the valver, I'd probs go for 6000 mile changes but thats just me probably.
you should probably change it if its been in there a year and change the oil at the same time, halfrauds do sell them but i dont know which you need, valvers have a special one with some kind of valve in them dont they? also K'n'N do hi flow oil filters, not sure if they are needed but the higher the flow of oil the better surely?
I'd get one from VAG. It's cheaper and you know it's the right poo! I change mine every 5k, religeously. The oil looks nearly as clean as when it went in. I do about 14k a year. Split roughly 50/50 between commuting to work and A/B road 'spirited' driving . It's a dead easy job on an 8v, I can do it in about 20mins start to finish (it's easy with ramps). It's a good idea to get a new sump plug washer when you get the filter, just to make sure you've got a good tight seal. As for oil, I can't recommend the Synta stuff that the dealer sold me last time highly enough, 14.95 for 5 litres and its better than Magnatec! Fordo! EDIT: Cus im a retard Edited by: cforehead
how much? at he main dealers I go to, the guy always goes, ok I'll just edit that because that price is too expensive and then sells it to me, so cheapest I've paid is 8 and most is 10
Every 3K for me in the Driver, Oil and Fliter.. Madethe tappets alot quieter aswell. Edited by: Quiksilver
Now that looks like a FUN PLACE TO TRY AND GET TO !!!! Lots of room to get your hands on the filter - NOT !!!
You need: Genuine VAG filter - 5 @ GSF Quantum semi-synth oil - about 10 @ GSF On the valver it's a bit fiddly to get to the oil filter to get it off but not too bad. Just put the new one on hand-tight with a rubber glove or similar, put a smear of oil around the surface where the filter sits against the oil cooler to get a good seal.
Ricardo - if your changing the filter, cahnage the oil as well. Make sure you drain it FIRST!! Oh, and make sure the oil is warm before you change it.
You know those litter trays that your pet cat shat into before it learned to shit outside? Get a couple of those to drain the oil into. Have a decent oil filter wrench handy. Bung plenty of newspaper on the floor underneath the litter trays. Have a new sump plug washer handy. Consider using an engine flush before changing the oil. Get an old empty canister (and maybe a funnel) to put the old oil into afterwards. Take it to the dump and you'll probably find a bank to deposit the old oil.
