Ta for putting that up Monk. I've got a couple of other pics that I will forward to Chris tonight.
Strip down time now. Shell up the road for the last bits of fab work, then a bit of prep, then to paint. Parts finished off, re-made, painted, plated etc. as required, then screw it together with decent fasteners. Got my mojo back again for the whole thing!

    I think Polo's are maybe 80-100kg lighter than a mk1 Golf Matt.

Std mk3 1.3 Polo engine (hydro tappet) is a very similar weight to the mk1 1.3 Golf engine (mech tappet). They are both an iron block.
Some of the newer Polo / Lupo engines come with an alloy block so these may be lighter, but, will have the added weight of the twin cam 16v head.

interesting, that the reason you chose the polo dogwood?

just thinking if ya happen to be wanting a track car, and cant find a decent shell, or cant afford one, maybe look at the polo as an option.

Polo + wishbone conversion = Lighter MK1 Golf.

    Especially a mk1 or 2.

    MK3 weighs in a 830kg. mk2 lighter, mk1 lighter still.

    Looking Great Nick!

Just fancied something other than a Golf and at the time, there were still loads of good Polos about for decent money. Since then me and the rest of the world discovered Berg-Cup and realised that Germans had been making quick Polos for decades!

Gonna see how it goes with just the wing vents. I think that most of the engine bay heat will be coming out into the inner wing area through the big holes for the steering arms, hence the cut-outs in the wings to help evacuate the rear of the wing area.

Cheers Sparrow. Brookster - sent some pics over to Chris so he will no doubt stick them up when he gets time.

Not much more to report other than I don't know what colour to do it. Gonna try and sort out a painter this week and get their input on painting composites, matching panels off the car etc. Reasonably sure it will probably end up being a solid colour rather than metallic. Any ideas fellas?

    good job nick!

paint matching panels off the car shouldn't be a problem as long as all the paint is from the same batch. painting composites like carbon is the same as painting fibreglass, should be easy for them.

satin black would be awesome, although any satin paint colour will also look amazing. the hot rod guys used satin as it was easy to use and get a decent finish after fixing any damage/repairs.

    satin red?

    satin blue?

other option is for classic race car 'gloss white'. it's going to look spankin no matter what colour you paint it.

Keep it the original red! As a salute to its history and development you have put it through.[:D]

Id stay away from white (there's another Polo G40 hillclimber class winner at mo in white), that or trawl through the berg cup polo photos and find a theme. Either way im sure it'll look great! Can't wait to see it!

You gonna have any videos of it running, etc?
