Really, I'm glad you cleared that up, it seems my 16 years in the motor trade has been wasted.

The 'wiv a cam' quip is a long standing joke on here.. ;)

No, i'm saying it for a joke...

if you portd and polished the head, better cam, skimmed it abit, you'de probably see abit more too.

basically a mk1 gti engine only with a bigger exhaust, k/n, better downpipe. so why shouldn't it?

the car with that spec DOES keep up with std 8v digi's. w*puldn't be sure about it against a 8v 1.8 k-jet though.

I'm sure a 1.3 could keep up with my valver if it revved to 10k, ran twin 45s, silly cam lift and duration and massively ported head etc.. but what's the point in spending all that money and losing all that drivability?

1.8 drivers are ok, but hard on fuel when you drive em hard.

Plus if you want gti performance out of one you still have to spend a good few quid :)

True, but 500 a year insurance with a stack of mods, including twin 40 webers, instead of 1200 make up for it.

Drove my old driver for the first time in 4 months last weekend, it's still set to fun.
Had it sideways a few times then had to pull over and pick the battery up off the gearbox. (rusty battery tray [:$] )

bloody hell what did i start!

i've never once said my car was quicker or as quick as a gti!

my car looks poo hot but its all bolt on stuff(coilovers, split rims, lights, seats, exhaust) so it can all go on my gti!

drivers have some big bonus's over gti's: cheaper to buy/run/insure

so it was great when i needed a cheap car but now i can afford it, im ridin gti style(still slow tho!)

Did the clutch on my sisters 1.6 driver on the weekend, little did she tell me that when you put your foot on the clutch there was a grinding noise! [:s] when looking into it i then found that the thrust bearings on the crank have gone!! need to find a 1.6 block now! [:x] [8(]
this one wasnt a bad work horse but it took time to get speed up also was drinking fuel cos of the shot choke system! [:s] got my work cut out!
