This is a feeler thread for anybody interested in a faster ratio steering rack for a non-PAS Mk2.

Any suggestions for companies etc - but I'm guessing it will be Quaife.

Following on from the last couple of posts here: http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=144169

We shall work on a basis of at least ten, so just to gauge interest, put your name down if you are up for one.

There is no set deadline at all, nothing has been confirmed or anything like that - it's just a feeler at the moment. [:D]

Also, if people can confirm whether the UJ sizes vary between years and models? I'm sure I read something about this...

    Thanks Toby.

UJ diameter across the splines on the pinion I assume?

I'm guessingthat there's a chance it would suit Mk3 Golf and Ibiza 2/3 also?

Yes mate it's the splines in the pinion I'm not so sure about. Some say 16vs are different, but some say it's year dependant. I've searched the forum for a definitive answer but to no avail.

Also, they may be good for the 6n (Mk4) Polo, but I'll have to look into this. I know there should be a few people willing to opt in on Club Polo if they are suitable.

I'll get onto some Ibiza forums to try and find out if they are good for them as well. I'm sure there are more than enough people on here capable of deciding whether Mk3 Golfs share the same rack as the Mk2 though.

It would be nice to think we could have this off the ground and payments being delivered to Quaife by Easter time at the latest, but since when do things ever go to plan?

Seems there is 20 and 36 spline pinions... And a few places list certain Mk1 racks the same as certain Mk2 racks - surely that can't be right?

    Grrr

I guess I've misjudged the interest...

No prices or ratios determined yet. Need to speak to Quaife about this. I'll put you down as interested like me.

If there are enough people interested, then we can speak ratios [:D]

I'm interested in a 2.9 quick rack and have spoken to Quaife.

At the moment they only make a LHD one but would make a RHD version if we can get FIVE commitments.

    So thats three, anyone else??

Come on people there must be some more interest than this?

Get yourself a 300mm wheel, some wide tyres and a quick rack for all your exercise needs!

Could you give a ballpark figure of how much they would cost?

If this was done through Quaife, estimate 100-140 for a rack and pinion kit - always bulk dependent.

Stick me down for one.

280mm steering wheel and 8" wide wheels. Who needs the gym? Quick rack would add to the fun! [8D]

I may be interested, depending on the price.
