Phew! That ain't that bad I think, is the boot floor rippled? Doubt it. :)

I think the rear panel replacement deal should be ok, if done properly.

I think you've been lucky, in an unlucky way.:(

yeah ive been lucky as i can sort the rust and the badge out at the same time.....

im just concerned if i have it welded out and put in its gonna be mega expensive and i need a genuine panel.....and also the seam welds are gonna rust pretty quickly......

    it could even pop out...

don't think the boot floor is bad to be honest...not checked but there was a dent there already.....so not bothered about that....

the bumper isn't even cracked or anything....so thats pretty good really....

    any other thoughts...

funky, I realise its a mate thats hit you but thats life, if they hit a stranger they would sort it correctly.

There was a article in VWM a while back that did this exact repair due to rust, and it was easier to replace than repair, the feature made it look fairly simple for the proffesionals.

Good luck, but don't be soft with your friend.

76 - i ain't being soft at all, she will pay what ever it costs to have it fixed......if she decides to insurance it, it ain't gonna effect me in the slightest, thats up to her....

all should be fine....i will have it done proffessionally and properly, just interested what people think is the best way to have it fixed really, weld out that panel or what?

    i doubt it........

it can't be that much to replace that panel...

100 for VW panel, 150 labour??????

    Not a write off surely???

Maybe they would i dunno, what do people reckon?

You gonna strip it down your self?
As you say you don't want rust appearing in the seams 6 months down the line. your looking at a pro job here and thats gonna be more than 150 in labour [:s]

Look on the bright side....least you ain't gonna have to wash it now :p
