as some of you may know, there is a very nice mk1 on the bay at the moment, tomorro im going to have a look at it,

i spent nearly half an hour on the phone to the seller, he is well sound and owns 3/4 other mk1's of different styles, from completely standard origional to full out track sl*g, so that boeds well,

she was very keen that i come to see it and has said that he is happy to just spend a couple of hours with me, said i can do what i like, put it on axel stands to get a good look over it, take parts off etc etc...

very sounds guy, and a credit to the word enthusiast!

i looks forward to seeing it tomorro morning and will keep you updated!

i will also take my digi cam for a few pics.

was going to ask advice as to what to look for really, are there common problems with modded mk1's? areas that ppl overlook that cant take extra power?

    and wise words?

    cheers,

    tim

Main thing to look for on any car that's A reg is rust, pull the carpets up and have a good, real good look underneath.

Don't be blinkered by the mods and snorty Webers :)

The listing makes it look and very good car, but just make sure it is.

I'll give you the low down on problems wit my car.

Exhaust manifold downpipe coming in contact with antiroll bar on heavy acceleration

Steering rack mount (drivers side) spot welds giving way from excess stress

Cracked exhaust manifold from stress from 1st problem

Leaking dizzy that contaminates clutch from leaking onto bell housing

Steering rack knuckle boot disintergrating from heat from manifold

Front engine mount ripping bolts out of front panel

Saggy doors that drop when opened (easily but brutally fixed)

Also look for signs of bad jacking, bent/rusty sills, signs of rust in corners of arches all round (if rusty then arch is rusty too), blocked sunroof drains if it has a sunroof, badly refitted interior if it has been removed, badly messed with wiring, the list can go on.
