Most purists who have never really driven one properly would say that. Does not stop these vehicles from flying off the showroom floor though. Some may argue they actually engineer them better. 440Nm through the 2 front wheels is some engineering feat that works surprisingly well w/revo knuckle! Even better in the 350PS package as 460Nm. I will always own a VAG product regardless, but it is unfortunate VW does not make anything near as capable for the price. More a case of shame on VW.
true, but when you add the power to weights up, ford have gone backwards. Same as VW. Only ones taking it forward at the moment is the Jap teams. What they have done with that Focus is amazing, never personally driven one myself, but just the times it makes around tracks etc and straight lines. But the big thing for ford owners, was tuning, not many cosworths are standard these days, and with the RWD or AWD the cosworths had ment you could get more power down on the floor, I think when they start tuning these up, they will come unstuck a little. Either way, tunning aside, its a great car.
Everyone is making a big fuss over these Focus RS specials..... they have only made one of each to celebrate @ Le Mans. Give them a break, it's just a bit of fun. Even though I wouldn't buy a Focus RS (mainly due to it being FWD), I still think it's a great hot hatch.
I think the VW folks need to have a look at themselves prior to casting judgment on other manufacturers. All manufacturers (car or other) use marketing to help sell their products in one way or another. It is just a bit of fun and a nod to the good old days really. And those good old days are still with us if you go rallying too. I do not see many VWs competing that's for sure, Ford mk2 Escorts though, oh yes. And if you consider what owners do to their cars then, VW has got more than it's fair share of "differing styles". Some of which must be derided by onlookers from different car backgrounds too.
When did Audi last run a Quattro in a world rally championship? Like Adam said, this is a pretty weak argument, and most manufacturers dip into their motorsport history books every few years, as is their right.
Its all marketing on heritage. Ford have a massive motorsport history. but the cars don't match now. the Fords i see in the WRC or BTCC aren't the ones i can buy in the dealers Vw not so much motorsport stuff, only the Mk1 Golf GTI is their saving grace of "fast" cars, something they are grasping on to, whilst others have caught up.
A quick google search shows the GT40 won in 1968 and 1969. Anyway, the point is it's just the venue to celebrate their motorsport heritage. I like the idea that manufacturers still have a bit of 'spark'. BMW art cars are also a favourite. It's just interesting to see manufacturers can have some marketing flair in a tough economy.
Quattro is a badge, a 4x4 system........... Audi choose not to carry on funding that side of the motorsport. They pretty much only run in the DTMs now?
Lol, yeah. Don't be suprised if at the next track day anyone showing a CGTI sticker is rammed off circuit by blue ovals A bit of banter is healthy though
audi is def just a bit of fun.. no way would they or have they ever flogged a car with those colours unless it had been breathed on ford on the other hand will have no issue squeasing every bit of money they can out of their fake racecars. maybe autocar have got wrong end of stick.. but given recent events with the rs500 i seriously doubt theyd pass up the chance
Possibly true, but cast your mind back to 2005 and the almost pathetic Audi A4 DTM. If either company had a sense of humour (and it's unlikely), I'd lay money on it being the Essex wideboys, tbh.
yea that is pretty shocking.. vag are walking a fine line. some of the stuff they send to worthesee are pretty bling, and what was that addidas edition all about? wtf have trainers got to do with cars
Poor mans S4/RS4 Not defending VW or audi or any other manufacturer. its done for money off the back of some very flimsy history
http://www.audi.co.uk/new-cars/a6/a6-saloon/finance-and-offers/audi-a6-le-mans-edition.html Audi make a "le mans" special, nice car - i went to le mans in one this year. True it is not vinyl covered and a garish like the focus, only a few small chrome "le mans" badges give it away. That's just the difference between fords and audis though. But is the other reason for the dislike is how the focus has nothing to do with their race cars? Well i can't see the link on the audi either - only that it runs on diesel....?
The harlequin polo was the publics doing, after VW put a polo on display at a motorshow showing a selection of colours available, a few nutters wanted the same look for their car so VW obliged and bought it out as a special edition
