[/IMG] My mk2 golf gti 16v. I've owned it for about a month. One Owner, FSH. In the process of changing a few old bits over: Exhaust/Water Pump/Ignition Leads/Plugs/Oil filter/Speakers/Upgrade dash lights etc...
Welcome to the forum. Nice looking stocker you got there. And it has a decent number of valveage as well
Looking great in Alpine White. Only moved from Gateshead last Sept after a 12 month stay with work. There were quite a few mk2s locally
Haven't seen that many about, to be honest. One lad down Low Fell has a couple, that I know of. Had to do a 468 mile round trip to buy this.
That might be the fella I bought my 16v exhaust from. You don't see many about but they,re definitely there. There was a regular VW gathering up by St Mary's lighthouse, although may be just summer months
Me (mint road j plate mk3) and a mate (1600 mk2 driver) are local and would have the odd run up to a meet, if we knew where there was one. Jon
Had to cut the old middle silencer off with a grinder today. Then noticed that the back box is knackered as well. And to top it off, the new middle silencer is poorly finished, as it's got a narrow split in it. Nothing's ever straight forward!
"Nothing's ever straight forward " That's all part of the joys of having old cars you can do it yourself on
Hi there, nice white MK2 you have there. Must be right on the cross-over point between "Type-19" and 90-spec (or perhaps someone's just changed some bits around) : late spec doors, early spec bumpers, late grille, early Montreal "bottletop" alloys, late 50mm inlet manifold ...
Yep, soon get used to it though, just need to think about steering whilst you're still moving (like we're all supposed to but don't bother with cos we have power steering). I'm not sure about the feel of my mk2 power steering to be honest but I'm just too weak to cope with keep-fit steering now. Those wheels are 14", right? Still ok like that from memory, only starts to get tough at 15" and 195s!
Yes, they're 14". Thinking about getting some 15" though. I better bulk up and get myself down the gym first (times I've been inside a gym in my entire life - ONE). I'm really enjoying owning the Golf, although all I've seemed to do is replace bits on it from day one. I've never been one to mess about on cars, but I'm just learning as I go and trying to do as much of it myself. Forums like this are a massive help. So many good people willing to take the time to offer help and advice. Not sure if I'll attempt changing the timing belt and tensioner - don't want to take the risk of knacking the engine. My heaters are blowing cold, but it could be the foam that's attached to the metal doors within the unit behind the centre console? Blows out bits of stuff when turned on. Apparently, it's a pain in the backside to do, but I'll give it a go - It's the only way. There's something really satisfying about doing the jobs yourself (and saving on labour costs).
I'm not far away but you wont have seen my MK2 because its been locked in a garage in pieces for years. lol
Hoping to have mine back on the road within the next few weeks. If I ever find the time. I'm just accumulating parts at the minute, which the Mrs isn't happy about. Good job she hasn't seen my bank balance then!
Even more exhaust problems. Bought a replacement middle silencer and back box from Euro Car Parts and the Middle Silencer is split! This is the second one I've had from two different suppliers, and both have been rubbish. Can anyone recommend where I can get a decent middle silencer? Thanks. SECOND MIDDLE SILENCER FROM EURO CAR PARTS:
Is there a Longlife exhausts dealer somewhere near that could make a stainless one up for you perhaps? Or get style dynamics to make one up (with club discount) but that's a hell of a drive from you.
