G60 one is stupidly long geared.

    summit like @ 7000rpm
    1st 30mph
    2nd 59mph
    3rd 118
    4th 127
    5th 160

AKY i think is the code..
depends what you want it for i suppose, out right acceleration, or motorway cruuuuuiseability..

Chris's box might have 6 gears, but 6th is actualy a tiny bit lower than the g60 box's 5th....

RIGHT so for the 1/4 mile then I'm not wanting a G60 box, If I run the S3 engine at around 230bhp ish the 16v gear box should hold together for a wile, till I've got the money for a f**kin good box!!

all depends what final drive is in the quaife box and what you want from it!

3.94 final drive will give as mart says just under 160 top end.. (156mph if you are on 195/50)

if you use a G60 final drive (3.6) the top speed will be 171mph.

i've got a 3.94 final drive because to be honest... where are you goin to need to do over 160??? (not many places in this country!) and to me acceleration is more important than top end! IMO the quaife kit gives a really nice spread of ratios for both road and track use... haven't tried sprinting the car as yet so can't comment on that. (won't be long tho.. hehe)

Lee the 02m seat leon 6 spd box is way cheaper than the quaife one, and has the 1st 5 gears lower than a mk2 16v then the 6th for more relaxed runningonly thing is it's difficult to fit and heavier than the quaife box

Quaife 6spd synchro box... with my choice of ratios and FD gave @ 7800rpm:-
    1st-57.7mph
    2nd-81.7mph
    3rd-105.0mph
    4th-131.3mph
    5th-164.8mph
6th 197.0mph - needless to say this is optomistic LOL

Actual g'box I have spec'd tops out at 170mph which should be adequate.

ratios in a mk3 16v box are more suited to turbo power, 2y [mk2 16v box] is better for higher revving engines with less torque

Lee, the diff pins are a weak point of most VW boxes, you'll be wanting a quaife ATB diff or something similar.

Most people like the quaifes as they're maintanance free.

If it blows out, thats by by mr gearbox.
