HELP PLEASE - I'd like a VAG M12 x 1.75 x 20 hex + captive washers - DO THEY EXIST?

    Right folks.

    Pt. Nos. required.

    Below is an image of: N 906 484 02 - M10 x 35 - 1.5 P bolt with captive washer for the MK4 rear shocker top mounts.
A simply beautiful piece of kit!
With it is the chrome plated thing that came from Sachs.

Now I would love to be able to fit a pukka VAG bolt M12 x 1.75 just like the 10mm one below.

I found this M12 x 1.5 bolt, not as beautiful as the M10, in my shed. Must be Mk1, or Mk2, or Audi 90 20V Q or Audi 100?
Something similar with a 1.75 pitch would be most acceptable!

I was wondering if the dealer's ETKA lets them search for fasteners by size. I'll phone and ask tomorrow.

Must it be a separate, yet captive washer, as opposed to a flanged head?

I know this chap is way over-long for what you want, and probably quite expensive as a result, but it's the right thread!

That's part number N 10640301 and about 100mm long. Shorter ones with same head must be available, I'd imagine, not sure how to find them though.

Thanks Pete. It's a nice enough head, but I have got my mind set on something identical to the M10 one cos. it is a nigh on a perfect bolt.

Only the totally engineered stretch bolts, on the left, from the Audi 90 20V Q are better.
If fact they are the perfect bolt design!

    Interesting!!!!!

It's a bolt used for the camshaft pulley on loads o' VAG cars.

Early VAGCAT etka images show a standard type bolt with a loose washer.
    But.
Later ones show just a bolt and no washer.
    And.
    The word 'combi' is used!

So. I recon. that 'combi' = 'combined washer'?

    It could be most suitable!

    Ta so,
    sSon.

Wish I could have sweet dreams Pete. I am sleeping poorly at the moment, and today is no exception.

    BIG COCK UP

I awoke at 03.00 hrs and realised that the M12 bolt with captive washer, the second photo in post #1, is the one Justin pointed out:
    N 906 340 01 = M12 x 1.5 P Camshaft Pulley Bolt.
    It's from the PB motor.

    It's an M12 x 1.75 P that I need.
I have changed post #1 accordingly.

    A few observations:

    1 - N 906 484 02 the M10X35 bolt is 1.5 P which is standard so VAG don't mention it in ETKA references?
    2 - N 906 340 01 is M12X30X1.5 and 1.5 P is a fine non-standard pitch so it is stated in ETKA?
    3 - 'COMBI' = captive washer?
4 - Structural Bolts: Chassis bolts, bolts for brackets, thin plates, etc., often have a flanged head and are usually coated?
5 - Mechanical Bolts: Engine bolts, transmission fasteners, etc., often have a plain head and are usually un-coated?
6 - ETKA is completely inconsistent on how fasteners are described!

    Conclusions:
Only non-standard pitches are stated in ETKA?
We need to be looking for 'combi' bolts in chassis?
It may not be easy due to inconsistencies?

Good examples on here, especially item #21

It says 'threaded bush', which is a throwback to Mk1s.
It is actually a flanged hex nut with washer face M14 x 1.5 P.
Item #17 is correct, but what the flipping heck does 'AM' mean.
If you note, at the top of the image, my LH tab is a Google search for VAG Fastener Suffixes.
Seems I need to search for Prefixes as well.
    The suffix search proved fruitless.

what do you need it for, I'm guessing the top mounts you have are larger thread than oem? Combi does appear to mean with integrated washer that cannot be removed, 'hex collared bolt' means it has a flanged head. The inconsistency within ETKA may be down to what the bolts were when originally speced, vs what they have subsequently been replaced with. Or just mistakes

Assuming that if thread pitch is not specified they mean 1.75 I've found this one so far:
    N 90920501 - bolt hex head, with shoulder, combi, M12x55x38 - 4.25+VAT

This has shoulder plus washer. 1st measurement seems to be total length, 2nd the length of the actual thread, the rest being unthreaded. I think, looking at the nice pictures that go with  so may not be suitable you only need 20mm ones... I'll keep looking

Edit: found these without washers, so you would need to add some:
    N 10324402 - hex collar bolt, m12x35 - 2.24+VAT
    N 10690701 - hex collar bolt, m12x50 - 1.94+VAT
    N 10337803 - hex collar bolt, m12x55 - 3.03+VAT

There is a section within ETKA that covers `` Norm Teile`` with size and some reference as DIN 6921 or so

I'm looking for some of these in M8. Thread length anywhere from 65mm to 100mm would be fine. The important bit is the 10.9 and the zinc flake coating.
Any ideas where to start? I don't have ETKA or anything like that.

Vagcat is a good etka reference for parts. Just have to sign up.

I've just bought a load of chassis bolts so if I remember I'll have a sift through them and see if any of them match

I find www.partscats.info to be pretty up-to-date, and no need for sign-in, unlike vagcat.
