Wow a mobile ashtray. 10 to anyone who can provide video evidence of them launching a fag end into one of those whilst its moving (chewing gum for non smokers)
Prof i know you are just stirring here, but one is a very practical vehicle and designed and sold well as so. The other is a tarts handbag
I'd love to see a test of that tarts handbag against an old school series 1, and see how well it fares offroad. I bet it's better than you imagine
Saw one on the flesh the other week... not my taste at all. Why do all modern cars have to look like a training shoe? IMO the debate around its off-road ability is irrelevant. 99% of them will never go off road, unless you count a gravel driveway, spending their time between the school run and the shopping centre car park. I've seen an S2 Land Rover rolled with the roof off and windscreen down, while bouncing round a field. Wasn't a pretty sight after, and was a miracle that no-one was seriously hurt.
taking James Mays little test of it on topgear the other week with a pinch of salt, i'm sure it would do ok, seeing as its a freelander, which isn't a bad car off road.
Used offroad? Pfft! No way some game keeper is going to lash a dead deer or filthy, stinking and soaking wet pair of spaniels in the back of a new car costing as much as a house. Prof, I started watching the video but bailed out after I heard the first few acronyms. All that stuff sounds great...........on the odd occasion when it actually works. The reality is that using all these high end electronics on something that is driven through water and mud is a recipe for failure and faults to occur after a short time. Just look at the cost of some of these problems to fix, if the dealer techs can actually identify the faults. Having worked at an offroad driving school in the past, most clients did not even know how to set the switches to use the vehicles off road. I recall with a smile when the hill decent mode failed on one, the vehicle should have just controlled it's own speed going downhill, however it just careered down the slope through a fence into a field of sheep. The driver not even touching the brakes as the car knew best!
seen two more today, all of them have been red. two today were filthy, not sure if they have been tested off road to get into that state. would still have a sport over this.
this'll chear you up design director Gerry McGovern said that the brand plans to launch a series of new vehicle types and that the Range Rover Evoque launch was just the start of this process. He said that he wanted to re-imagine the Defender for the 21st century and that we will see the design early next year.
