I drove an Evoque today, and was proper impressed - bossman had his car in for a service, this was his courtesy car, so I took it through the slate mines near me where the off-road boys go.
It pretty much went anywhere I wanted to take it, got a couple of wee dents but nothing major - it has serious traction with knobbly tires on. Seems like it wants to drive itself - you can just point it at a rocky bit and let go of the wheel and it keeps going, albeit slowly. Never any problems getting stuck in muddy riverbeds up to the sills as long as I let it do it's own thing, and quite quick on the way home.
I had to bin the paper "courtesy car" floor mats before I gave it to the boss though, and have it washed by the local handwash - muddy to the top of the screen.
I liked the drive, don't like the looks.

well over a dozen trailers of them today on the M6, all of them LHD, though i did see some on the road, getting to like them, has to be white and 3dr. its just a shame that this car has been cursed by victoria beckham. Why did it need a pathetic celebrity plug other than to "sell" it?

Because it's designed for proletariat scum who've scraped together money on finance, with their tacky, X-factor tastes, who suck off trash media, 24/7 - ie Beckham trollop et al.

Sales of new defenders are pretty slow these days, this indicates that maybe there is something wrong with it in the current marketplace.

The simple rugged easy to repair quailty of the original has been forced out by regualtions forcing electronic controls to get emissions down and make the car safer.

Look at how many farmers are driving around in japanese pickups and other such 4x4's which in essence are pretty similar to what is being shown in the defender concept.
