I know Tommy, im gutted :(

Yeah ive noticed a few engines going cheap. If i do buy a replacement, i'll make sure its in good condition first of all.

    Turbo seems ok -

Take the head off first and go from there
But I would say it's not looking good
You could replace a piston but it depends on how much damage is done
The rod could be bent too and so on

Had a timing belt go on a BMW once and replaced a piston and two valves
Repaired the plug threads only for the big end to go 12k down the line
On the same cylinder must of damaged the rod in some way

    Yeah that true mushy.

A friend of mine who I bought the wheels off is selling his engine, which has had a lot of work done internally as he was running 300+ bhp.

Trouble is its an AUM engine. But I'm sure all the bolt on parts from the agu should bolt on to the AUM ok, as my AGU engine came with a later cam cover, knocks sensors ect!!!

I would almost be 100% certain it will have dropped a valve. Had a Cooper S in at work with exactly the same problem. :(

Also it won't be the compressor side of the turbo that would be damaged. The debris would go through the turbine wheel which, without taking the turbo/downpipe off, you won't see.

All your ancillaries will bolt onto the AUM Rich. The only thing that may cause a slight hindrance is that the AGU inlet is suited to a large port head whereas AUM is a small port. Won't be a massive issue I would think, but will cause a slight impedance to flow.

sounds like a nice upgrade if you go ahead for that engine, but i can only imagine its not the best time for you with the pending wedding

That's good to know. Everyone I've showed has been quite shocked at the look of the plug.

Probably is a dropped valve. Not sure of its worth repairing tbh is it ?

Will start stripping it down now and get the old engine out. Will definitely have a good look at the turbo to.

Yeah it would be silly not to buy it really.

And your right about the wedding, I'll have to look at my bank balance ;)

Have to agree with priceygti lol, guests are over rated. Instead of a proper meal, just pop to the local chippy, job jobbed haha.

I would say the head will be pretty much scrap to be honest bud, with the damage from the foreign body and the thread pulling out of the spark plug hole (although they can both be repaired by a good engineer).

Though you may be lucky in regards to the bore in the block, all depends on how long it was run with the foreign body rattling around in the cylinder. The Cooper S was literally turned off as soon as it rattled and it killed the head and crown on the piston :(

    Cheers Ben :)

Ive put too many hours into my Mk2 to give up now, so a replacement engine will be purchased soon.

Will hopefully have most of the bay stripped down tomorrow, and then drop the engine out.

It might give me time to sort out the hydraulic clutch and 02j conversion now, as it's currently running on an 020 box, which has performed great :)

i'd go new engine, the work to fix it would be more than an engine.

Agus are only a couple of hundred these days

Just read your Posts Rich. Sorry to hear all your bad luck with the 20VT engine. I have been there when I had oil pump failure and my fully rebuilt donnington engine seized back in 2009.

I wish you good luck and I am sure you'll turn your MK2 into something even faster :)

Very ture Jon, i haven't got the time to rebuild this one, need it on the road asap. :)

Not sure what to put in now. Another 1.8T or something better ;)

From the start the engine was a nightmare, especially with the issues with it at the start, but i didn't expect this after putting a few thousand miles on it!!

Will definitely replace it, not sure what with yet ;)

I know, im gutted! :( Was looking forward to bringing it out along side yours.

No worries though, it will be getting replaced.

Been thinking about what to do next tbh. [:[]... More power comes to mind :)

How about a 2L 16V abf with a turbo. Remember at the london meet Toyotec was saying the abf 16V can handle alot more torque and the options are nearly endless what setup you do on the abf 16V. I think Toyotecs Wolf R is a abf 16V turbo????. You'll need megasquirt to this conversion but could be a winner :)

For cheapness though a like for like 1.8 20VT turbo replacment is the way forward as you have already done the hard work with the engine loom etc.....
