Keeping the kr :) I think the nature of the engine suits the raw mk1 feel. Engine has been fully rebuilt though and will need a set up once it's in.

WOW, loving it in white, straight and clean!

Engine is basically ready apart from some small bits and pieces.
Bottom end is std 1800 KR fresh built with all new seals gaskets, rings and bearings(seperate thrusts ;)
Block has been lightly decked to clean up, around 4 thou with a slight witness mark left on one side. Intermediate shaft has been machined down, as well as the harmonic balancer, and re balanced.
crank is stock and was in very good condition so was repolished and replaced.

Head is one of my own. I haven't gone mad making things huge, but everythings been nicely blended, ports opened up slightly, and re-profiled to remove the sharp bends on the short side rad. Seats haven't been 3 angled but wasted, which in effect does the same thing.
Std. valves have been 3 angled and polished and the exhausts have been fettled a little to blend the shape a little as they are pretty poor from the factory.
Skimmed 14-16 thou so compression should be 10.71:1 with the afore mentioned block deck.
This will complement the Newmans 272 hydro cams quite well.

Of course there'll be a lightened and balanced flywheel which I'll be taking down to slightly under 3kg, so should spin up quite nicely.

Only things needed at the mo are a clutch, front water outlet for the head, and an oil cooler oil seal.

Looking good, I like anything race biased . Nice to start with a bare chassis I never seem to get to that stage so keep on adding and subtracting bits 'on the fly' so to speak. Just a few comments having had a quick read through.

On the heater fire proofing (and as I Hillclimb/sprint down in deepest darkest West Wales) from my experience some of the scrutiners have a thing about this. Escorts have it split as standard so everything else should be the same [:s]. Depends on what class you run but looking at the car I would guess you would have to run Mod Prod not Road modified. The problem with Mod Prod is you would have to get the car MSA log booked and then the fire proofing would need to be done to get it passed. Road modified you could argue the toss and whilst scrutineers always like to find something wrong (it's their job and they have to carry the can if you hurt yourself!) this is club motorsport and not F1 so they normally tell you to get it done and let you run - normally. To run road modified you would need a full interior inc glass etc (assume you won't have an interior). It's a token jesture towards full protection really as the rubber boot to the steering column is a joke, as much use a chocolate fireguard and there are plenty of other holes in the bulkhead but the heater is a big hole!! The Reeves answer is the simplest I reckon and works although I had an argument with a scrutineer who argued that the fire could go out of the bonnet and back down the boxing from the outside! Anyway just removed the heater as it was easier, not suggesting you do that but I didn't want it anyway - seeing out of the screen in the wet is for wimps:lol:.

Looks like it's sprayed now but it looked like you hadn't cut out the chassis above the drive shafts. Depends on what wheels you want to run but remember that there are very few decent tyres in 14" so 15" tends to be the size of choice on track. Plenty in 13" but brakes etc become a problem then. With 15" wheels you need to drop the car a fair amount to get the ride height sensible and the drivers side drive shaft hits the chassis when used hard on track. It looks like you might have ground the seam down which helps but it's an ideal time to sort the chassis out. Not the end of the world if not done many people don't but mine use to hit the chassis hard on track if you went over a pot hole etc and I've seen shafts snap on MK1's when that happens.

You going to be running it on throttle bodies or carbs? Shame not to

Cheers for that, and all the other positive comments, nice to know that the majority appreciate the time, effort and money going in to it!

Reassembly starts, more parts ordered, GTi International is going to be missed, first time I've missed it in years.

And if you can help with the seals for the gearbox, they are the plug type ones the cover the hole I am pointng at. They are roughly 25mm across. edit, not the little hole in the middle, more the whole recess at the bottom of the angled part of the drive flange.

Also need the bushes that go -

It's probably better to order new bush kits?*

    Advice/help cheers!

Nic, I can knock these up for you, and I think I may have some seals too, I'll have to double check, engine is done too, so you could pic it up tomorrow, and I can have a look for some seals ;)

I've got family coming over tomorrow (to see the little one) so may not able to pick it up tomorrow, however if you can sort out those bits then it'd be awesome! I'll ring you in the morning?
