    Sunday:

This weekend was a bit up and down, the car was finished from paint and was meant to get an mot, it had a few snags that needed sorting out so went to my mates place to get em sorted beforehand since the car was there.

Thought I had most of them sorted out and since I had fitted new brakes, thought it would be a good idea to go for a drive to bed them in to make sure theyd pass the mot. Got back from my drive and turns out my charge cooler is rubbish. It had cooked my engine and now is only firing on 3 cylindersagain. Its a bit of a long running problem I seem to have had with spark plugs/coils dying on me, turns out its all down to the cooler.

Decided to bin the cooler and go back to an intercooler, only problem being that it wouldnt fit properly behind the bumper bar with an oil cooler I had bought. This meant that I needed to chop up my front end, move the rad back and make a frame for the radiator, intercooler and charge cooler to sit in and mount up to.

Bought some angle and started to fab, my friend ben sorted out the welding.

cut out all the rad assembly from the front

started to make the frame, got the intercooler and rad positioned

put another bar in to mount the oil cooler

oil cooler at top, intercooler at the bottom and rad behind although its not in the pic

finished frame out and ready for some paint. Id of liked to of gotten it powder coated but my local place started to charge me more and more every time I went back to him so had to put a stop to it. Since it wont be seen decided to use some girder paint instead, its pretty hardcore stuff and should last a good while.

painted and hanging to dry in the garden

    Monday:

Took the frame back down the unit to fit.

    Frame in place

    intercooler in

    close ups of mountings

oil cooler mounted and bumper bar back on
since the rad was moved back it meant the bumper fitted nicely over intercooler

grill also fitted nice over the oil cooler

while the camera was on the grill, thought id get a shot of it. Friend painted the front black and behind the same orange as his car!

    mmmmmm shiny

can just see the cut-away I had to make for the oil cooler fittings

mocal oil cooler plate I had off eBay for a tenner!

got 2 9 slim line fans for the back of the ran

can just see them mounted here

new oil filter from a polo because its not as deep so I can get the oil cooler plate in without it obstructing on the front engine mount/bar cross member thingy.

removed my total ass charge-cooler and replaced with a pipe for the intercooler, need to move the dv to the other side of the intercooler though.

I had a spare rear beam hanging around which I had tidied up and removed all the rust from so thought id give that a coal of paint as well, see how it does under the car.

    Drying in the sun

took a few shots of the car and general assing around today but nothing special, will do a shoot when its on the road.

pretty pleased, had all the grey plastic smoothed and painted. The metallic black has a gold tint to it in the sun which looks nice.

Sneaky pic of my mates mk2 vr

some more and the top bloke from the aa who came out to fix my mates vr after clutch cable snapped and ended up taking my car home can spend more time on it there to sort my probs out.

Sorry if theres to many randoms in there, am just over the moon to have it back home on my drive. The camera cant do the paint justice and its filthy in most of the pics, when ive got it back on the road and cleaned ill get some gooduns of it in the light.

    Thanks!
