Just a quick update, had a blast at the Combe VAG day and my little tweeks seemed to work pretty well. The fuel starvation has gone too! Here are some vids of my day. Right then, prior to my outing at Combe, I had some issues to sort out regarding fuel starvation which can be seen here: http://clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=194372&highlight=fuel+starvation Anyway, I went with the costly solution of fitting all these gubbins.... There is an inline cleanable filter before going to the redtop pump which is used to fill the swirl pot. The swirl pot feeds the standard Bosch/Pierburg pump that goes to the engine & standard mk1 filter. Then the return from the engine goes back into the swirl and finally the swirl pot returns back to the tank. After hammering the crap out of the car round Combe, there wasn't a hint of starvation even when running on reserve! Gurds
Can't see the pics at work, but that sounds like exactly the same thing i've got planned for mine! Another upgrade for over winter.
I was getting fuel starvation with anything up to 1/2 a tank. Makes it a pain at track days as I have to keep topping up the fuel level. I prefer being able to start with more fuel and carry on for longer. Gurds
I thought your mk1 tanks were only 45ltrs- i would hate be held to ransom by effectively what would become 20ish ltr of usable tank
Some are only 38L as i found out the hard way getting of the ferry at Dover, ran out of fuel going up the steep off ramp! (thought the tank was 45L but it wasn't)
After having a right hoot at both Combe and The 'Ring, I have developed a rattle from my clutch which later became crunches and slipping on engagement from stand still. This is what I found..... The springs have actually started to wear the metal surrounding them eventually breaking up entirely. One of the small inner springs has broken into pieces. Seems as though the Bildon clutch may not be up to daily abuse of West London traffic. Gurds
Oh, definitely finished! I'm sure it's the Tesco's roundabout [] Tape, R&B CD case - and see you at Curby.
Gurds you thought about using a solid centred clutch ? i've seen and felt you change gear, 1st THUMP 2nd THUMP....... and so on
1/4 mile habbits die hard. I did think about it G but there is a standard clutch in it now . When I fit the new gearbox, I will buy a more durable clutch. This one has just gotta get through Curby. Gurds
Well, for those who haven't read it, I went to the 'Ring with the lads from this forum and all the detail can be found on this thread. Read on from page 20: http://clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=186130&page=20 And here are my videos: http://clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=197482 Enjoy. Gurds
On the 5th of this month, I attended the CGTi Curborough Sprint day. Always a good laugh and very social. Well worth it for all who have never been. I started the day desperately trying to get heat into the rear tyres without success and left me sliding around like the A-Team van for the best part of the day. Anyone get any sideways pics? I resorted to changing the rear springs as they were just too hard to make any use of them on the tight circuit. Anyway, after the spring change the car started to feel a little more together. But still a little skittish. A couple of rear tyre pressure drops and it all came together with me only making the most of two attempts of actually pushing the car hard. The setup hasn't caused issues before but the cold weather and short track time just makes getting heat into the rear tyres difficult. I managed to earn 4th fastest of the day at 28.97sec which is my fastest ever lap at Curby. Here are a couple of videos too. Also hope Aminder, Deako & Stella don't mind me using their material in my thread. Thanks. Gurds
nice driving , and changing rear springs big respect , nice to see this car develop each trackday. was this the car featured in a pvw group thrash about 4 yrs ago? seem to remember it described as a budget sprinter
Thanks Mate. My white mk1 was in the PVW group thrash and the grey one was in the Golf+ group thrash. This particular car hasn't been in any features. Gurds
