    hey,

i have some ronal wheels i really want to fit to my mk1. due to a really wide offset, im having problems !!!

a friend can cut a section out of the lower arm to narrow the track, and i can buy adjustable top mounts, and i guess track rods will be easy to shorten.

i am unsure about how much play there is in driveshafts ???
how much could i narrow it by before i need to cut shafts ???
can i have the outer cv machined to narrow it ?? does the main shaft need to be cut ???
or is there enough play to narrow the arm by 20mm and leave shafts alone ???

help will; be greatly appreciated !!

    thanks,

    jon

well i can honestly say that reply is zero help to me !!!!

shorter wishbones will not guarantee worse handling, making the top mount adjustable will give good adjustment for camber/castor.

There was a post in that thread that showed a mk1 that had been narrowed.
    You could search on that.
The alterations you are asking about will have a major effect on the vehicles handling. Not something to be taken on lightly.
You will not be able to do this without shortening the driveshafts either. They are made a certain length to suit. Even running a mk1 excessively low can cause the std shafts too bottom out on the gearbox drive flange.

cant machine them down no, and they ar 4 x 114 so i have to use adapters which makes things worse !!!!

got 20mm adapters already which are thinnest possible

I read on another post that your wheels are 4x114.

1st thing to do is to check it the VAG hubs can be re-drilled safely so that you don't have to use adapters. The process is simple and will work but you just need to check if that PCD will fit within the diameter of the hubs. All you would need to do is get all 4 hubs and the brake discs drilled to suit.

it'd be a better move just to get the arches pulled out to cover the wheels.
