Ok i been away for a few days...but....i have been busy. it was 2 days of mixed feelings. one of the main ones fear. as i took the angle griner to my beloved golf [xx(]

opertation fat mk2 has begun and stage 1 is now complete. the plan to take my car from a skinny mk2 to a fat one, yes that simple ;) . below are pictures showing my steps and the result. its late so they might be a bit mixed up.

the next stage is to get 15mm wheels spacers which i should have this weekend. completing the fat, non rub....erm dub [:s]

i also fitted some chinese door handles. i have minor frost bite..... and i also ran over a screw i left on the floor and had to pay 17 for a plug.....nice. but i got there in the end

    [:D]

well the reason im going for 15mm is when my old arhces where on i liked where the wheel sits. the g60 arches are 15mm wider so i figure just go out the same.

my bbs ra are already et25 and half an inch wider than standard.

i would love 9x16 but i have to keep these wheels to achieve the look im after......'standard but not'

    Sweet!
Did u grind away the inner lip?
I am doing this to my polo so i can squeeze the 13'8's under the arches and still b able to drop it 75 mm [:D]
Looks mint, need sum FAT rims for it now, y not get sum rm's, still a sumwat standard feature for a mk2 but look mad at the same time!

There is only one thing which goes through your mind when you make that first cut.........is this in the right place? :)

alternatively you could have a mk1, after 21 years they seem to do this for you

that is a good lookin mk2, even i could be tempted....

my rims may not be the fattest but if you saw how many PM's i get asking about them.....its the one thing on my car people ask about......and its the main reason im keeping them

rm's are nice and i love 16's on a mk2.....but its hard being dfifferent ;)

Door handles look sweet, are they off ebay? Do they just fit on with the standard mechanism and fixings?

Not sure I like what you've done to the wheelarches though, I'd cr@p myself taking an angle grinder to my car! [:$]

    WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You cant do that to the rear arch's cos ther are doubled skinned and spotwelded along the lip, you need to get them spot weldeed and sealed again if you cut them!!! [:|]

You also dont need to cut them like that [8(]

I had a mk2 that had the rear arches cut, lasted a good few years but the water and dirt got in and rotted out the rear 3/4 panel inside where it goes to the suspension tower. Use loads of waxoyl but consider having it welded if you want it to last.

You need to get it it super clean from all the factory wax - which is nigh on impossible, then get lashings of body adhesive/sealant in there if you aint gonna get it welded, then lash in the waxoyl inside, and lashings of underseal on the outside to seal it up properly again.

    as he said.

I had my rear arches welded on my mk1 golf and flared. Just get it sorted asap as moisture will get in and rot from the inside! [8(]

I don't get it though, how come you have trimmed so much off when you are running 7.5 with 15mil spacers?!

Oh sh!t recardo, i was scrolling down waiting for a post about the rear arches, and andy947 got it...

You cant just do that to the rear, didnt you see the two layers of metal separating while you were grinding away? [:s]

Its not the end of the world, just get them welded back together again as it provides strength for the chassis around the rear arch.......
