Personally I think it looks good the way it is without the spacers and with the G60 arches, should have left it and not bothered chopping the arches. Makes it look old skool with the arches going right over the wheels. Not sure until I see it, but I think if the wheels are spacered out any further it might look a bit odd as the wheels are only 7" wide (too narrow).

well done recardo, you obviously drive your car and know what you want. you were willing to have a go and i for one think your mk2 is one of the nicest around and still will be when the works done.
cant offer advice on arches as i dont have a clue, but theres nothing worse in my opinion than arches rubbing on tyres so something had to be done.
tell us more about your wheels they sound a bit speacial?

i picked the spacers up today. need to get longer wheel bolts tomorrow....i sealed up the arches as a temp but i still think more needs to come off. dont ask why these wheels are a right pain.

the wheels arent really that special. its just finding a set thats hard.....i still havent seen another set of them on any other car.

thats an asset worth keeping and i really cant wait for the spacers to be on. :)

and smithy i did think it might look strange with the 7inch poking out but since the car is so low you really cant notice. :)

im using HR spacers 15mm wide. they are hub centric so i dont need to bolt them to the wheel.

mate could you accomodate an extra 15mm? i would recomend getting
the 20mm ones which bolt to the hub then the wheel bolts to them.

Recardo, you really dont understand what you are doing.

I dont want to sound patronising bu8t its got to be said...

The fronts needd cutting like that because fo the steering, the wheel needs the large cut so that it wont hit the arch when cornering.

The rears are very different as they dont steer ike the fronts. Thereofre you only to to get enough clearance foe them to pivit ont he axis of rotation of the beam.

To be honest, where you have cut the rear arch's wont be the problem area. As you go lower (or the wheel moves up into the arch) it moves closes to the front of the car, its really is only the lip that you needed to remove. I'd bet that they will still rub, but not at the top, but more at the 10/11 o'clock position in the arch.

Wow!! - Just read all that and what a read. :)

I got my arches flared by Style Dynamix as I didn't have the balls to chop my own car. Well done for doing it yourself mate.

I've also learned a bit from reading this thread; I didn't know about the rear arches needing special attention (Spot welding) if you wanted to chop them away. - You learn something every day.

My rears have only had the plastic arch slightly trimmed, then they were bonded on. The fronts were chopped on the wing and the plastic, to allow for clearance when steering, then the arch was bonded on after the wing had been prepared to stop rust. I think that's how most have done theirs?

Anyway, your cars looking sweet as mate; I saw it on Friday coming home from work. With the spacers on it'll be looking wide and low!! - Just how Mk2's should be!!
