my old man has a Porsche 928. he got it in 84, used it regularly up until about 92. it came out a few times between then and 99-00. it has since not moved. i went to a muscle car meet the other week, loads of v8 fun there, it got me thinking the 928 needs to come back out. my initial thoughts are that every fluid in the car will need to be changed nearly all rubber components the brake discs have gone black, thatll have to be sorted. one of the reasons it went off the road was a fuel return pipe was corroded which i think caused it to run rough it is kjet so one of you lot will be able to help me get that sorted. its gonna cost a bit. anyone else got any other info that might be worth considering before taking on something as stupid as this?
black discs??? how has that happened? red rusty i would have thought but get it on the road!!! plenty of porsche breakers out there
seriously, they have gone black. the car was never packed away wet, but somehow the discs went black will need new tyres, everything. fecking mint car tho imagine getting it to stealth for vince to do some kjet magic on lol
has not even been turned over regularly. gonna be a plugs out and ratchet on the pulley job and see if its free. it has been stood indoors, so it is not rotten its a 1983 car, 41k miles lol
that would have evapourated i expect recon bushes would have died to death too? things like bushes are going to be murder to find. i hope the dampers are still ok too...
Porsche bits are very good to get hold of my uncle has just rebuilt a '79 911 and he was surprised about a dealer still interested in older cars! mind you can be FECKIN expensive!!
they did a 928 over two episodes on wheeler dealers. might be able to dig up the ep on youtube or torrent or newsgroups. i know its not the most technical of programs but it gives a good idea of the main failings, mechanical, electrical, body and chassis. they also did a meet and greet with a enthusiast owner for more info. just a suggestion.
they did mostly cosmetic work on that car and rebuilt the callipers, from memory. i can see thing being a major overhaul, everything rubber. brake lines, belts, everything. will be worth it though. just need to decide whether i can justify sinking c.2k into a car thats not even mine!
If you don't do it you'll always wish you had I'm like that with just an alfasud i could've got for free a few years ago
if its in a dry garage why would evrything rubber need changing?? dont worry too much just get it going and see what needs to be done. i'd go about it like this. jack it up off the ground on stands. drop the petrol tank if its metal, check for corrosion and give it a proper clean out. disconect the fuel lines and blow the lines back with a compressor. change the fuel filter. take the plugs out and drop some very thin oil down each bore, clean the plugs up. turn the engine by hand so you know its free. check the cambelt tensioners are free check the coolant and oil. fire the b-astad up.. if it runs ok, then you can think about changing all fluids, belts, plugs. and then start thinking about brakes, tyres, suspension components. if it doesnt run you wont have spent any money and you can tell your dad he killed a porsche.
belt before its even being cranked over, dont want to attempt to fire it up and a cambelt go.. ive got enough work on the plate as it is pics to follow yo
