Claire (Golfgirl) took delivery of her shiny blue R32 today and naturally I was eager as a beaver to get back here tonight after being at Daventry on a engine managment course :)

Pulled up to the house and the R32 sat outside gleaming, looked fantastic in the sunlight [:^:] Claire came outside with the keys and a big grin [:D]

We went out for a quick spin and took the car to show her folks, her mum asked if we'd been caught for speeding (no,not yet!)

On the way back Claire stopped and offered me the keys (bless her,I'm insured to drive it :p )...

Driving position is nice, but a bit high for my liking (I'm used to sitting on the floor remember) - pedals are nicely placed too.

Ughhh, the gear selection is notchy (cable change.... :thumbd:) Claire mentioned it being a bit hard to get used to [xx(] Anway, I soon forgot about that when I wound it round to 6500 in 2nd, the wail from that 24v V6 is glorious

Going up the gears I cursed that notchy gearchange once or twice, give me rod change anyday. [:$]

Braking for the roundabout and blipping down the gears using heel n toe (I've been practising) brought a big grin to my face [:D] Into 2nd and hard on the power real early - the 4 motion doing it's stuff, Body control is 100% better than the other lesser mk4s I've driven - this is a sorted car

Amazing thing is the torque, you can pull away briskly from like 2500rpm in 4th - unheard of in a 16v [:v:]

No real need to hold on to the revs in the lower gears as it goes pretty damn well using the mid-range in the higher cogs, BUT It sounds fantastic if you wind it round to the redline

All in all it's a fine car but it really wants to be for 20+k...

    good points -

Looks fantastic,we got more than one admiring glance [:$]
Torque and sound from that glorious V6:thumbup:
Handles well for a *big* car
    Brakes are very re-assuring

    Bad points -

That gearchange, cable change boxes DO suck :thumbd:
Road noise from the 18" Michelins :thumbd:

    So you like it then?!
Agree with most of that - I reckon the gearchange is pretty good but actually find the gearlever a bit far back in the car.
    Road noise?!! It's a goddam performance car! [:D] :p
    Send my congratulations!

Dalj - I couldn't afford the tyre bill to take it on track 130 (not fitted) each for Michelin 225/40x18s :o

Matt, yep love it!!! - It shows how far the Golf has come along in the last 15 years, my mk2 looks VERY dated parked along side the R32

Jonboy, been seeing Claire for the last year ;)

Nice write up mate!!!! I'm sure Claire will let you rip out the interior, weld a bucket seat to the floor and fit a set of slick`s for a track day

I can just imagine Claires face when her 4 hour old (well with the keys in her hands) R32 gets redlined by GVK Track Extraordinaire! ;)

The cable change on my mk4 sucks too [xx(]

I wouldn't buy another mk4,IMO they just don't do enough for me for the money! Would need to get a go in an R32 to comment on that though!

sounds ace....i'll have a go i one, one day [:^(]

cable change does suck, i'll go with that!

probably be less road noise with a different brand of tyres, my michelin's gave a huge increase in road noise.

Very easy to hit the limiter in the R32 - It revs so damn fast!
