I don't think you'll need any speakers in the dash, they aren't 3.5" anyway though are they? they are odd rectangular fitment, you can get speakers this shape that will drop striaght in though.

I'd forget the speakers in the dash, and just run the door speakers, which are indeed 5.25", get some nice 2ways for the doors, and then keep your 6x9's in the parcel shelf.

Remember, I would never run 6x9's, but its your money and your car, you can choose not to have a sub if boot space is that important to you.

    Take it easy.

make sure especially if running a sub you remove the 6x9's as they get damgaged from subs under them and it's not hard to fit 5.25" components in the front tweeters in dash mids in doors

    yep, that's the plan.
no sub, 6x9's in the back, 5.25" + tweeters in the front.

Coaxials have the woofer and tweeter integrated onto a single chassis, usually with a built-in crossover. Components have a separate woofer and tweeter (2-way), orwoofer, mid and tweeter (3-way) - most components have a separate ("off-board") crossover unit.

    right, gone and ordered stuff...
found pretty much what i wanted on caraudiosecurity.com very cheap, so i figured i might as well just buy it now rather than when i can actually afford it [:$]

I went for these speakers and this head unit. the prices seem damn good, hope it arrives Saturday....

Cool. Gimmie a shout if you want the speaker grilles, otherwise they go on Ebay.

ok... got the door pods thanks to kidkoala, but how am i meant to attach the speakers to them? they sit on the posts fine, but there's nothing to keep them there. i think i might be meant to use some black metal V shaped things with a hole in either side, but the hole in one side is too small to go over the post...

Do what I did, just wrap some gaffer tape around the posts once the speakers are on. Trim it down to size.

    Use yer noggin

    whee, all in [:D] almost....
the HU doesn't quite slot all the way in cos of the RCA lead sticking out of the back... and the amp only turns on when the headlights are on

sounds good tho, need to fiddle with the front/rear balance a bit.
fitting it all today was maybe a mistake, 3C outside

anyone got any ideas on why the amp would only go on with the lights? i'll just leave em on it the mean time ;)
