Thats not really answered the question mate has it? How long to do the clutch on a vr6 from start to fully assembled and ready to drive?
i took an entire VR out of my mk2 in around 45mins and it was the first time i had done anything like that last yr. Vr's are no more fiddly to work on than other cars, infact they are more together than say an 8v, meaning there is less to unplug move out of the way etc. Never changed the clutch and put the engine back in the car, but i've whipped the gearbox, clutch and flywheel off one. It didn't come across as being harder than when i did it to my old knackered 8v lump stef
to save all the back biting why not let onboy have a go his way as we all have different ideas on this and i for one will answer any advise he may want
Its quite easy to take something out, does usually take a bit longer to put it all back in and get it connected up. How can it be easier on a vr6 than an 8v? 8v has got so much room around it you could put a few suitcases in there.
Jonboy - I'd take the lot out, others wouldn't. After your first time doing it you'll decide which is the way for you. Comes down to preference.
I'm with TSC on this, they come out a treat.... I watched a mate (who I had no intention of helping) fit his box in 45 minutes and it was his first as well. on a similar note. I got drunk not so long ago and before I knew what happened I had to explain to my G/F that I took the engine out for a good reason...... with a little practice they virtually fall to bits at your feet! (with a few pints they come to bits over the entire garden )
From my experience it was, half as much wiring to unplug due to the main plug situated at the back of the engine on the VR. The coolant pipes, driveshafts etc were no more fiddly either. You also have more room at the back of the engine, as the VR design leads forwards towards the slam panel (easier for getting to the engine mounts, downpipe etc), where as the 8v leans backwards towards the bulkhead more. Its a bigger engine, but it didn't make it the harder one to work from. My 20vT lump is more of a fiddle. Not going to argue with you though, i know what i took out quicker from my own experience. Might be different for others I agree with that, but thats the general rule for just about anything, lego models , cars etc etc etc stef
I was over there when he did it!!! I was expecting to be sat there all day on me own drinking in the corner, but by the time I'd finished my second, he was applying Swarfega to his filthy hands!! A true master at work!!!
So how about time for take the vr6 engine out , taking the box off, changing the clutch, then complete reassembling ready to drive. How long would you say?
Lol!!! You sound just like me. I'll find the pics of me and my bro ripping the engine out of my car after consuming lots of bottles of Stella each!! I did the H/G on the other car after half a bottle of Jameson's too Oh and I forgot to add, it's still going strong! Edited by: Tuff Schmitt
No matter what car, on a 4 pot I lift them out the top. On a 6 I drop them out the bottom. It's an easy job, either way.
in situation all day long, its a flase economy to remove the egine and box, just the get the engine out. on a 2 post ramp, i can do a clutch on a ford festa in 30 mins, ill even change a clutch in a renault 5 with the engine in situ
