Me and G/F talking about a new (secondhand) car, I want a TDI 130bhp or the 150bhp Golf but she will not entertain the idea.

She thinks that they are slow oil burners and not worth p1551ng on. I think that they are a good car to have and fast enough with good mpg to boot.

Can anybody tell her/me the +points and the -points of the car.

She has a MK3 16v at the mo and does not want anything slower than that.

You are correct!;) TDI is the way forward. Me and my girlfriend sold both our cars to buy a TDI polo, not looked back since, we have performace, over 500 miles to a tank of fuel, and a much nicer car than either of us had before!:) Take her for a test drive!

Seconded on the Polo TDI.

50+ mpg if you have the time to drive slowly and 120mph when you haven't will still return 30+ mpg.

    1.9 though not the 1.4 3 cylinder...

I would, but the car is for her. I have a MK2 16v that is staying where it is.

Just trying to tell her that there is no shame whatsoever in getting a TDI.

But like most Woman she thinks she knows best

I bought my ma a Passat TDI. 2001. Paid 9k for it, years back.
    It's 90 or 110hp,I can'remember which.
On a recent journey to Enniskillen, 219 mile round trip, towing a very small boat and me driving like a granny, it did 62mpg. My Mk2 valver gives me a 25mpg average.
Work out the money for yourself.....

But the 150 will have a little turbo lag the 130 is the best ! less turbo lag and pretty much the same,

How does a 150pd compare when lined up to next to a 20vt?

Even better then! I've never driven a 130, must try and find one to drive. Tell her a 130 would spank her 150 petrol. That ought to cause an arguement!

sorry I have to disagree... have you driven both these cars? diesels feel quicker than they actually are because of the way they deliver there power (low down, massive torque)

I agree that almost all of the time they are a better all round drive, but nothing beats second gear in a valver imo, not just the acceleration, but the noise, the frenzy etc. Diesels are quick but do not put that smile on your face in the same way.

I do have a diesel atm as well so im not just a biased gti fan!!!

ive driven both :) the turbo lag in the 150 is not good you move away from the lights and your waiting for the power as some cars might pull away then all of a sudden boom the thing is off the 130 the lag is less but when it comes in your off and you wont be disappinted

I've driven 2 Mk3 GTI's. One with 142k and the other had 87k on the clock. 2nd gear is good yes but i have to say the 150 Bora was quicker. It just pulls very strong in every gear with no let up and pulls to the red line unlike some diesels that start to run out of puff.
