Stumbled over this - Vortex guys paying homage to the original. I remember it - the Golf had just started and Awesome GTI Store's peach Mk1 VR6 was in an early issue. "First?" they asked. Close, but definitely second. Kind of bizarre to look back nearly 15 years to a time when this was real news, taking the Mk1 in to totally new territory - and yet today someone will just say 'yeah, my mate's doing that down his unit'. God bless the internet. I still have that European Car to hand, picked it up from an Alladin's cave of a magazine shop in central London. Don't know if it's still going, but there used to be the occasional race car article from US tuners - real gems to find
I remember the peach MK1. I always wanted one after seeing that. ( was well young then...) Check out the club sticker
Orange one? The nuts in its day. Castle Combe Converted Car of the Year, 1996 IIRC - Jim C was there, putting it through its paces. Sequel to the best ever looking Mk1 (IMO - opinions may vary!) - Awesome's Clipper-kitted G60 Mk1 in turquoise @ Inters '93.
The Turqoise MK1 had a 2.0L 8V Digifant put in it and was sold to Steve Jenkins then was on the BBC Documentary on the GOLF GTI, The G60 out of it went into a Black MK1 which was at the GTI Festval last week. The Peach MK1 VR6 had 45mm throttle bodies fitted just after the photo shoot and we went to 1997 Treffen with Jim , went in it on the Autobahn @ 140MPH to D&W while my MK1 was having the exhaust welded up back at the hotel ( bloody Ashley 4-1 had snapped Those were the days p.s. the Registration on the Peach MK1 was 297 DUB which was for sale 6 months ago for 4.5k (Reg that is)
Yep, the turquoise dream was changed really once the Digi went in. But in G60 spec it was an inspiring build (nothing by today's standards, but great then), was a Volkswagen Audi Car cover car. I wasn't going to go to Inters that year, but I bought the mag and that was it. I had to go see this car! Jim doing burnouts at the start of the quarter mile Cracking. Fantastic days. I had one of the mag feature photos blown up to A3 and it's still in a frame, still looking the business on its Borbets. Must scan it up. This'll do in the meanwhile - posted before:
That's Satti Singh on the left of the photo used to come to the Yorkshire ClubGTI Meet The Alloy scuttle covers for MK1's i used to make them for Awesome. Still got a few in the garage
Got The GOLF mag here june/july 96 , in the article it actually has the Weber Alpha Management and TB's fitted 212BHP @ 5800RPM how sad am i Deutchcar DTM Mirrors 150
ahh TSW Stealths, they had to be the most popular wheels at the time. hated that peach mk1 though. used to have a orangey/bronze metallic one as my desktop pic, it had a full cage and was sweet as fk, skinny bumpers etc..wish i could find that pic
That Peach Mk1 was resprayed green in the noughties. Remember it going up for sale some years back. Classic cars from a classic era in pushing boundaries for Mk1/Mk2 modifying. Britlook to the extreme.
I remember seeing these cars at international back in the day For old pics from international check out the mk1 golf owners club facebook page, there is a guy who's uploaded a load of old photos. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php...e#!/photo_search.php?oid=23970968939&view=all
We've got a max power video cassette (sp) at home with this car on it Might have to dig it out for a watch
they were good times, I was really young at the time - remember my sisters boyfriend had a purple mk2, with fully colour coded arches/trim with 17" TSW's and I thought he was an absolute hero!!! ha ha. He only bought it to impress her as she had a mk1 for her first car. Going to scan in the pics from my first mk2 later to give everyone a giggle!!!
