Do you remember JD engineerings mk1 G60? that was sport rallye front and rivage body kit. That was quick, and i iked it when the G60 pulley came off and went straight up the 1/4 mile!

Jeroen Dik's - another one of the my all time greatest ever Mk1s. Pics here taken at Inters ~ 2003 or possibly 2004.

    The man himself, right:

8v then 16v G60, WTI VW Motorsport 6-speed gearbox, choice of 2 final drives

+ PVW Cover car, Feb '97. I don't even need to check the date.

I drooled and drooled for weeks and months at it, noted the PAS install (found to be LHD OEM of course), and the spec of the thing was mouthwatering. Mick Clements, former Rabbit editor, did the article and it's still a classic read, sheer performance tuning using some fine components.

    Vid of it here

I almost feel like compiling a 'best ever Mk1s' list.

Rolled his own I believe - but I'm sure he's built another by now.

one of my favourites, used to have a mag write, like the way the wings/front have been slightly lengthened to add a bit of room.

Very nice that Mk1 but I preferred Jan (something Dutch) Green Mk1 G60 16V around at a similar time Chris.

Yep, Porsche wheels, Stroeve shifter? Surname began with an 'N' maybe?

Another all time classic for that best Mk1 list, all the more so as he would bring it to the UK to use it.

I used to really enjoy seeing the Dutch/German/Belgian cars coming to Inters.

Red HGP Turbo R32 came and kicked **** 2002/3?

I've got a copy of that mag too! Not long after we did The Golf feature on the Awesome peachy VR6 Mk 1 an American guy from the local air force base who used to come to the Harrogate Club GTI meets in the early-mid 90's thrust the mag in my hand and claimed the first for North America (albeit Canada!). We'll call it a draw!

Jim bought the Mk 1 from Tristan Rees (who later had Jim's pink Mk 3 VR6 & the purpley Rallye) as a boggo black X reg 1600cc GTI. I've got a few photos of it before & during the modifications which kicked off over xmas week 1995. Wow, 15 years ago!

Ah it's you Mick! Good to see you around these parts again!

I can vaguely picture the black car, part way through the mods. It must have been in Rabbit? Either that or it's the turquoise one I'm thinking of! Good times!

Eh up Brooky! Yeah, in Digifant spec Steve Jenkinson had it at Bruntingthorpe for the filming of The Car's The Star, but Jim C was interviewed stood in front of it. I think a lad called Dean in Manchester had it after Steve. Steve was well known in his own right back then, his peppermint(-ish) 1300cc 'GTI lookalike' Mk 1 was in the first ever issue of Max Power!

I'm blowing the cobwebs off my memory banks here, but I think the G60 engine set up was initially sold to one of the Parkhill brothers (Chris?) in Scotland who had it in a Lhasa green Mk 1 for a while. In true tart fashion, I had the Rockford amps & RCL sub out of it!

Looking back it's hard to under-estimate the impact Jim's turquoise G60 Mk 1 had, it was one of the very first 'complete package' modified VW's - colour change, body styling, Mk 2 dash, interior swap plus the engine!

Wasn't it TSR that did the 1st UK turbo or supercharger VR6, (can't remember which).

It had a scoop at the top of the wing or bonnet iirc?

With you all the way on this, not only did it look good but it was put together brilliantly, sounded mental and went like a rocket. :)

I think I have a copy of the video of the epic Rawtenstall Christmas/New Year sub-zero Peachy VR6 build knocking about somewhere!! Transferred it to DVD a while back, so Jim should have a copy as well. Did a lot of miles in the VR6, it sounded incredible and one of the hidden gems for a Mk1 was that it had power steering!!
