I have to agree with this People didn't buy a 1.9d estate thinking it was going to set the world on fire. They bought it for a purpose - size and economy. It ticks all the boxes. The 2.0 NA GIT (I cant bring myself to call it a GTI) was sold at high cost as a "sporty" car with "sporty" performance. It was found wanting in all depts. I remember driving back from Reading once and my friends 500 mk2 8v left my other friends mk4 2.0 na for dead. The guy in the 2.0 NA (this was some years ago so he'd paid about 5 or 6k for it!) just couldn't understand why he couldn't keep up with it. Aweful aweful car.
i honestly think that if i put some effort into it, i could have hung drawn and quartered that 2.0 mk4 in the little fiesta. i know that come any roundabouts and braking, that fiesta is pretty untouchable
