Next up it was time to change the matrix that mid looped out in the summer. I decided to take the whole dash out and have a good clean up and redo the flaps

I also put some neoprene sheet on the flaps also but didn't get a pic
    [IMG]

    Bit of OCD cleaning lol

Found these in the dash lol, I think they were a bit past it.

Next up I managed to get another set of un seized fk coilovers cheap so swaped these over allowing me to raise the car up a bit and fit new mk3 top mounts.

Next it was time to fit the front eibach arb, this didn't go so well, I snapped the drivers side front subframe bolt:thumbd:

The shank of the bolt was seized into the subframe, I tried heating it up and hitting it downwards but it was having non of it.
So I cut the subframe and then the bolt

    Leaving me with this

So out came the hole saw

And I could finally get to this little bugger!

I managed to remove the stub

And cleaned up the captive nut thingy

Wire wheeled inside of the leg

New bolt replacing the snapped one

Now I needed I new subframe, I got a powdercoated one from vosswagen in the end as I was getting short of time with having the clubgti Bedford day booked

    Fresh [:D]

All built up ready to go with new ball joints, new arb drop links, r32 rear bushes

I then bolted it all back up and welded the captive nut in place.

A bit of primer added to keep the rust at bay, I then hammerite'd it after
    [IMG]

    Hole welded back up

Last bist of prep before Bedford were to change the master cylinder as in old one had been weeping and I couldn't fix it even with new washers, so I bought a new one and bled the brakes again

Also I had the tracking done as I'd never had it done in all the time I'd owned the car lol

I also wrapped the relay ball in aluminium tape In hope that it wound not melt, this is just a temp measure until I can get a better replacement

I also stripped my wiper linkage and greased up the spindles as they were a bit slow and jerky.

Next up was bedford clubgti day.

This was a brilliant day, got to put a lot of names to faces.
The car was faultless all day apart from one of my subframe bolts came loose as I forgot to thread lock it, I noticed it clonk in the pits so just jacked it up and tightened it up and all was good.
The quaife and eibach front arb made a big difference to how the car cornered and I really enjoyed driving it on track, I think I done about 170 miles on track lol

Here are the pics I got from the onsite photographer, there are some great shots of it 3 wheeling

Next was to tidy up the interior a bit as it let the car down a bit, first up was to sort out my headlining which had fallen down last summer on the way to brands hatch.

    Out with the liner

The shell had cracked it quite a few places and I was missing some edges.

I taped the back of the shell with aluminium tape and used some expanding foam to fill in the missing bits and trimmed them to shape

I them cleaned off all the old backing giving me a clean surface to stick the new material on.
I decided to use a grey acoustic carpet to recover it with, it's nice and thick and strong and strengthen the shell a lot

The final result, I think it came out really well

    And back in

While I was working on the inside, someone local was selling a few sets of these, this set are absolutely mint, I got the full interior and door cards,

Applying yacht varnish to the rear of the door cards to protect them. I also sprayed the seats with a gtechniq spray which protects them from stains and repels water.

    And in

Cheers for the comments guys. The interior has made it a much better place to be now.

He had 5 or 6 sets and they were all pretty clean, mine were one of the best sets. I got them from Tim Eastwood aka aquavalver, I'm sure a few of you know who he is and how mint his old mk2 was to know just how clean these seats are [8D]

Next up I bought new track rod arms and ends and gaters to finish off the steering freshen up.
I left this task to a local mechanic that has recently just started up on his own.

The wife followed me up there to pick it up, and as they were both clean if was a good opportunity to grab a couple of pics of both the golfs ????

I was fed up of of the bumpers on the car, the front had a few scrapes and I'd had damaged the rear with the garage door.

I decided to buy some new ones from vw heritage and had them painted.

They had freshened the car up a treat.

    New front
