But of an update, I got my mate to make me up a metal relay shift ball, should stop the problem of it melting when on track Got a new horn for my momo, the ripspeed horn had been buggin me for 10 yrs ever since I got the wheel from a halfords bargain bin. New Allen bolts as the old ones had surface rust Bit of a show prep detail for the Bromley pageant last year
I am so jealous and excited, my bumper is on the way and i cant wait. Car looks awesome, love your work
Next up was the Bromley pageant, this is one of my favourite shows now, much prefer the general classic car shows now. There was a great turn out on the clubgti stand. Some pics I have gathered from others
Love the build!!! Any more info on this as im having the exact same problem (melting balls ), I tried wrapping my 4to1 which resulted in my manifold overheating and cracking. Id gladly pay for one or like i said any info on what he used to fab it up would be great!
I bought one of the missing linkz Teflon ones, and measured it and sent him the dimensions and he made it, not sure what it's made of but its been fine since. I think hot golf can knock them up also. The dimensions I gave him were 26mm high 34 mm wide The inner hole is 21mm
Couple of days after the Bromley show last yr it was time for the retro cars magazine track evening at brands hatch. This is always a quality event with some nice oldskool stuff on track. I got some brilliant pics from a mate, the wife and the magazine photographer. The car was faultless again apart from the jetex touching the rear beam almost constantly!! Wheels swapped and ready to go Waiting in the pits Love this pic Nice mix of cars ??
Next up I finally decided to do something about my jetex exhaust banging on the rear beam. I took a trip will west London to see the guys at style dynamics. I chose to have a oem style back box made and joined to the jetex 3 box system.
As I was starting to do more track days I wanted to get the fueling checked to make sure the car was running safely. I knew it was running well, but for piece of mind I took the trip up to see vince at stealth racing for a Heath check and rolling road tune. I knew the wur had previously been played with as the back had been drilled out to access the adjustment Allen key. On its initial run it put out 175bhp, which confirmed what I already new, that it was running well. They said the fuel pressure was a little too high and adjusted that down, they checked the ignition timing and I was already running the max that they would recomend also I think it was 10 deg. So another run on the rollers showed an increase and a final number of 184bhp ?? I know their rollers are a bit optimistic, so think 184 quite high for a standard abf on kjet with a rebuilt standard head, but on the road test after there was a nice increase in the mid range and the engine note had changed slightly for the better, so well worth the money.
Thought I'd add a bit more to this. This is still well behind June 2015 Fitted an early spec rear washer bottle and some eibach camber bolts so I can run more negative for track. Set to -2.45
Next up was a trip to snetterton for the day. I drove up after work on the Monday eve and met up with some mates and stayed over nearby, Parked up in the hotel Some nice cars in the hotel car park I really enjoyed snetterton, it's a nice long track with some great corners, the weather was perfect and the car again ran faultlessly, all temps staying where they should be, The day was run by opentrack and as part of the fee you get free photography and tution, I took up the tuition offer and went out with a tame racing driver for 20mins, he let me drive for a lap or so them gave me little pointers which really helped, he also commented on how balanced the car felt. Towards the end of the day I was getting a slight rumbling noise on hard right handers, so I called it a day as some black clouds started to come over and took an easy drive home .
Before snetterton I had ordered some BC racing coilovers with slightly harder rated springs than standard, I went for 7kg fronts and 5kg rear. I sadly didn't get time to fit them before snetterton. So set about it when I got back. I opened out the top bolt hole as even with the camber bolts I couldn't get enough negative camber I wasn't sure what this was for so didn't fit it, and the result was this! Mega lows lol
I am really impressed with how the bc's handle, the damping is much better than the fk high sports that I took off and the ride is much better even with the stiffer springs. I took it to a local show while I had it running low. Few pics from the show
I keep telling people it's not the spring that contribute to the harsh ride it's the shocks but does anyone ever listen to me. Noooooo and as for people who drive red MK2's who knows what sort of people they listen to. Probably get together in their anoraks at the bottom of the garden and sing Abba songs by the light of the full moon. lol Think I'll go off and eat worms.
