Dark colours, shinny split rims, shinny engines, wheel arch extentions back, low suspention, recaro seats and dash conversions.

    Beige = old biddy's knickers

    Yep, thats the way forward.

Wouldn't agree with the dark colours though, unless silver is an exception? ;)

Phat, Andy; swearing doesn't add validity or credibility to your comments.

Been there, done that with the only Supersport Fly ever made. That is sooo early '90s

    Like big bumpers on mk2s?

OK, dark colours it is then [:D]

Big bumper MK2's were cool - you lot are talking about base model specs and trims - no one ever thought a base model MK1 or MK2 was cool - so why go make your cars look like it!

If you like old cars (seeing as I can't say sh1t anymore) them come buy my Derby. it's a horrible little car, I can't stand it. It looks rubbish, it smell, and it's slow, why? because it's old.

I think I'll glue kit kat wrappers to the bumpers, some clown might buy it then.

I've got an old Ferguson "music centre", that's old skool, you can have that for 300.

    How about a Betamax VCR?

Come on guys, get real. just look at Andy947's car and honsetly tell me it doesn't look good. You can, because it does. Would it look beteer with small bumpers? 2 words "Silver surfer"........ [:$]

Phat, Andy's car looks good, but its hardly modern is it? most of the car buying public would see a mk2 with big bumpers as "old school" :)

I consider my rallye to be old, it might not be old in VW terms but compared to the other far more modern stuff I couldve bought with the money, it looks old. but I like the way it looks more than I like modern cars, so thats what counts.

I also like the look of old mk1 polos, chrome bumpered mkl golfs, old cal look beetles, karmann ghias, old ferraris, and old aston martins.

I just dont like the look of modern cars, and I dont think you do really, youre just stirring ;) saying that its no good unless its modern is a bit hypocritical when you drive a corrado (which is still an OLD design) and you rave about mk2s with big bumpers, which might have been modern in 1990 but they arent now!

when mk1 polos were first released they were slow and common. now they are a rare sight and can also be made to go nice and quick with some more modern bits if youre into that sort of thing ;)

but mainly they are different! I dont like being the same as everyone else, thats why my first mk2 golf is a rallye :p

Jus cos its old and different doesnt mean its cool!!

Thats my point, folk are too quick to go "ohh, thats old and rare, that must be really cool now" when in fact its not at all!

    [disclosure]
I don't know the person who owns this car, neither is this car completely to my taste, it has however had quite a substantial amount of work done to it.
    [/disclosure]

anyway back to the topic in question, i agree with this comment
I also don't like modern car design (most, not all), i like old stuff, don't care what people say :-P

I like simple geometric shapes (like a nice square mk1 golf for instance) and simple styling cues (spelling/wrong word entirely?)

In your opinion, there not amazing but there arn't many about.
cos you dont clean it. And again easily sorted.
Cos its got a weak engine in at the moment that can be replaced.
Yes, but look at any old golf and alot of those things apply if not looked after.

Go for it, make sure that they are vintage wrappers though as that will double it price. Let us know how you get on

Yes it does look good, this topic is about what people are going to be doing next year. Go and buy a nice shiny Smart car  and stop slating the old ones.

you saying rallyes arent cool? [:x]

I know what youre saying, but mk1 polos have a design thing going for them, as in they are nice to look at. like 60s beetles are, and karmann ghias (you gotta admit THEY are cool?)

besides, I would be the last person to say "that must be really cool now" - because I decide what I think is cool, not based on what everyone else thinks! If I think its cool, IT IS, to me! I dont look at something and think "would everyone else think this is cool?" which is what I think youre getting at.

It's a bit like the way that a ford focus has more design to it than a mk4 golf, IMO. Id rather have the golf cos the focus is a) even more common than a mk4 golf and b) probably not as well built. But I still appreciate that ford at least spent some time designing the focus, rather than just rounding off the old escort, a la mk4 golf!

Did I mention I have a soft spot for capris? [:$]

oh and as for mk1 fiestas, while I hated mine because it was slow and tinny, nowadays I kinda like the look of them, they are kinda similar to the mk1 golf and polo, funny that! Just a shame they are built out of tin foil underneath really! an old VW is better IMO because its gonna be more solid, age for age, but the looks are good on both.
