Andy G uses them and has recommended them in the past - so I presume they are fine.

And when running a relayed uprated loom I believe you cant use the dim dip, as Steve said.

So they are not completely pointless!

According to the instructions I got with my BRM headlight loom, the dim-dip output (legally required on cars after '87 I think?) is around 20w, so since the dim dip resistor is disconnected with the relayed loom, one way of getting around this is to use 20w halogen sidelight bulbs from vehicle wiring poducts (not cheap tho' [:s] )

Technically I suppose a picky MOT tester could pick up on the fact that the sidelights look a bit dim if you just keep the 5w sidelight bulbs & don't have the dim dip working (can't see this being the case though)

funky the dim dip is a system that when your side lights are on, makes your dipped beam lights come on aswell, only instead of being fully on they come on very dim, jst to give a little more light

didnt realise it was ilegal not to have them however ive been through several mots without them and never had a problem.

think the LED bulbs are probably the best bet really they will look as bright as the 10w side light bulbs i bet even if they dont give out asmuch light, you will never notice while driving because you never use your side lights to see where your going anyway.

Fitted some of those BlueVision sidelight bulbs. Utter waste of time - about as blue as the Yellow Submarine.

Think I'll be purchasing one of MattieG's looms to replace my fried, spot-lamp-less Trimsport one, plus some Osram bulbs and fitting 100w Philips bulbs in the spots.

    Let there be light! [:D]

Easy to make a loom up yourself - and cheaper - cost me about 10 all in.

Hear MattieG's are good quality though so its up to you

well ive bought some of them LED sidelights to try out.

ive figured i may awsell if the look crap they dont cost much.

anyways the only thing tht worrys me is that it says do not mount any closer than 3 inches to the mainbeam bulb or else they will fail (presumably melt)

this should be fine in the jetta headlamps for a while, but its alot closer in the rallye lamps, however the rally lamps only have dipped beam in the same plase so we will see ill take some before and after pics so you can see the difference in colour

Yeah, I'm sure could make one myself but I have very little time, space and patience at the moment! And the nearest auto-electrical supplier is a good 5 minutes walk away!

Anyways, have ordered a loom (which may be arriving this weekend!) and will give some feedback here once it's installed.
