I've had this for a while now and manage to extract SKC pin to enable me to reprogram keys for immobilisers. Have done this on the newer vw's and seats with no probs.

i'm having trouble coding a key for a mk3. Can't seem to retrieve pin. Has anyone managed to do this on the mk3? Not sure if there is a problem with the transponder box or associated equipment.[:s]

    Hi,

I managed to retrieve the key on my MK3 19996 P Reg.

Didn't have a key to reprogram to the car though, but would assume it would work. Took me a few attempts though.

i'm not able to get the pin its a 1997 on a P. Was using immo box vw/seat.
What was the problem when you tried it? It connects but says error when you try to get pin.

Was wondering if there was any faults, haven't tried vagcom yet but need to code the key. Its starting but cuts out after a few seconds

i didnt think the MK3 clocks were linked to the immobiliser though? is the mk3 key not just for changing the milage or something?

No its not connected to the clocks, but it can interface with the immo box on the earlier cars. I managed to get the pin for my 16v mk3. But having problems with another mk3.

You can change mileage and it helps with swapping clocks to different cars too. Plus recoding for the dash lights and Miles to empty.

There was a thread where you mentioned having to go to a dealer to recode keys. I knew it could be done without goin there. But i have a problem with this other car.

yeah you have to go to the dealer if you dont have the 4 or 6 digit SKC pin, if vag-tacho can read the SKC from the immob box direct then that'll be a result for me, might have to invest in the cable n software! I've got a box sat at home with no matched keys so idf i can recode it that would be teh awesome

edit: do i need an existing coded key for this to work? the sites I'm looking at suggest that you do :(

No. just needs to be compatible with the reciever etc or the right type of transponder chip. Before i got this program, i went to the dealer with log book and id to get the SKC and used it in vag com. They don't do this anymore. Now i can extract the four digit pin and reprogram the keys. Using vag tacho or vag com. The pin is held in the ecu/immo box.

Well worth the money. But this time, it won't seem to work.

cool, i was under the impression that vag-com couldnt retrieve the skc, but it can code new keys right? Sorry for hijacking and sailing your thread away from the original topic

yea thats right. Vag tacho retrieves pin and recodes keys and does mileage.

    recode keys
read the SKC of the instrument cluster
    mileage adjustment
re-write the EEPROM of the later model clocks for illuminated needles, tank to empty etc

Back to the initial question. Has anyone managed to get pin from a mk3 immo box? and what ecu type did you use?

well i got it going, tried 2.2 and 2.5 on 2 seperate transponder boxes, both fail when trying to read the pin. silly question, but do you need to have a matched key in the ignition before it will work?

Oh and this is how I did it

:o looks like a mess. Re the key, No thats the point of being able to extract the SKC and reprogram an unmatched key. First you need to select immo box vw/seat from menu and then click connect to selected tacho. On the later models you are connecting to the clocks. I'm sure i managed to do it with my mk3 ABF before but it in bits at the mo so cant really confirm it.

the mk2 was the only 12v source i had so found a spare ce2 fusebox and plugged it all in

another thought I've had, the ecu is a non-immobilised type, so i wonder if the box needs to be connected to an immobilised ecu or matched to an ecu before it can be read? or maybe I'm just unlucky :(
