if it is saying interface not found then its not right even with it not plugged into the car. It should say something like interface found but not genuine ross tech.

have you now matched the ports on the laptop and vagcom?

Have you 100% gone and associated the USB cable to a serial port, that is the main issue I believe.

Sorry to hijack this threa. But I have this all set up, but have limited options as I need to activate the software. Does anyone have an activation code that they can send to me?

sounds like your mates mk3 1.9 diesel is like mine (all mechanical) not electronic,
    eg. no ecu to read,

mine has no ecu being all mechanical but does still have the diag socket (with pins connected) but unable to read,

    hope this helps:thumbup:

i remember reading something a while ago about the usb portse not operaing fast enough for vag-com, hence why they're mostly serial cables? not sure if this is true?

Nope, none of mine has ever said this.
When it says "Port ok, Interface not found" thats it, Plug it into a car and away you go.

You might have a problem about a Diesel not having an ECU though. I dont know anything about them so you will have to try it on another car and see if it works.

Have you looked into device manager to see what port it is on, You can change it in the advanced settings but i would advise port 2, 3 or 4 as 1 is normally a default printer port.

Keep trying different drivers, might get lucky?

If I find out from him I'll let ya know
