I never bother with 0-60's in mine.

    Why ?

Because I know how weak 16V boxes can be especially when your really on harsh standing starts.

I know it's pretty quick from everyday driving and track usage so I'm not bothered in sprinting it..I'd rather preserve the transmission...especially as good valver boxes are getting more rare.

 mmm - good stuff V! A few more questions though, do excuse my ignorance I'm still learning!

-where can one get a short ratio box?
-do you mean to use the KR inlet cam with the 9A head? many here seem to support retaining the KR head
-is there a particular spec for the flowed head e.g. 'A' pack etc...

those lauch control computers that limit the rpms to what you set it at so you have control when you set off everytime.

you'll still need a good engine to haul ya ass to 60 tho. but if you slip the clutch like crazy you could loose seconds.

AUG is the late 8v gti 90spec box. Its got a longer 2nd & 5th gear ratio but every thing else is the same as a 2Y box. As a result, I change into 3rd at a higher speed than using a 2Y box but can cause bogging down in 2nd slightly if I dont redline 1st gear. Oh yea, have to use an uprated 8v clutch cos the 16v one will no longer fit. Only bought it cos it had a quaife diff installed already.

Cheers V, Thought I'd seen that prefix before [:$] funnily enough my valver has already got the box off the 91 mk 2 digi, I nicked the valver's 2Y to put on the digi when I broke a tooth in 4th gear - when white van man drove me into the rough edge of the road and the juddering from a cross-drain buggered the box.

OK, any views about fitting a turbo to the valver?

Stealth do it but I don't think it's cheap. Serious power available but you'll need to think about uprating brakes & suspension too as a minumum.

    hey all!!

i used to do 6.2s (inters) in my standard 16v, it was stripped out, and had some gearing mods. (no LSD)

Modifying the the engine can only make the car harder to launch, probably because there's more torque available??

What he means is that the engine power was standard as it came from factory but he played around with gearing to give quick accelleration.

If a turbo were to be fitted would this require lower compression?

Yes, unless you only want to run low boost.

Lots of ways, no way is "best" unless you have an unlimited budget for forged pistons - have a read of the turbo forum for lots more info.....
