This is still the same problem i have had for ages, a few topics on here about it.

To recap - start from cold, car fires up and revs hit 1100rpm then drop to 350ish for about 10 secs and then returns to normal, leave for a further minute and she drives fine. once warm, starts up no problem all day long.

Leave it over night and the same problem occurs, but (as i just found out)If i leave it all night, all day and night again parked, and start her up the following morning, she starts up no problem!

So start her up after being parked for 12 hours - problem

So start her up after being parked for 36 hours - No problem!!

Any ideas? - is this something to do with the fuel pressure or something, loosing pressure when cooling down, but builds it self back up after 24 hour cold?

    So confused??

    Fuel accumulator probably!

Mine went all freaky like that, wouldnt start if you parked facing uphill in the end

Theyre not cheap, hence why mine didnt get sorted!

I had a feeling it was the accumulator - strange why the pressure builds back up after 30ish hours though?

Changed the filter, did not help :(

is there like a non return valve on the acumulator? or is it the whole unit that needs changing?

What happens if you prime the pump a few times before you try to start it?

Edit: defo worth replacing the lift pump first, also its worth bearing in mind the 16v fuel pump components are the same as early 8v (i.e. K-Jet) in case you find any in your local scrappy ;)

    Still having this problem! :(

I have tested the accumulator and it holds pressure for over 2 hours over 3 bar (which is correct i have been told) priming builds the pressure back up to under 2 bar!

I have also put new merc injectors in, but i am still having this problem, although once fired up now she does rev perfectly straight away!

    Any ideas?

perhaps the 5th injector is seeping out a little fuel when the system is at a high pressure, then stops when the pressure drops. The fuel then evaporates away if left long enough?

    Wild guess that!

Does it always start fine after 36 hours, or could it have been a one off? I assume you've done the obvious & replaced/swapped all the ignition system bits including the coil :)

I think that was a one off to be honest! And i have replaced everything except the coil!

Is there a test for this?
