As i grew up the one car i always said i would own was an m3. hard top, estoril blue with charcoal alipina 5 spokes

now there getting a little more affoardable. i could probably pick one up with 50k on the clock for about 12k if i looked hard enough.

can you give me 'proper' reasons why i shouldn't sell my car and get one. or reasons i should

rear wheel drive, lots of power....hard top

If you can afford to run an M3 then i think you have already suggested reasons enough to go and get one

engine won't fit, the gearbox on them is far too long, and all the mounts are wrong, i considered this with my previous mk2, but it was never going to be possible.

Just buy the whole car, they look nice, have a great amount of power and it will enable you to keep the golf off the road, and be a true show car. [:D]

The only reason I can think of is that you really want an E30 M3:

Is it just me that doesn't like BMWs? I think it must be the attitudes of the drivers that I've encountered that puts me off.

Sure they are good cars, but I could see myself turning into a BMW driver, and tbh, I hate to generalise but I've had nowt but trouble with them [8(]
