e30 m3s all the way! But then I would say that! heres my baby! I love all these people commenting in e30 m3 Great cars to drive, totally different to an e36 m3. Its all about the 4pot power, handling is fecking awesome, proper car. Standard valver vs m3, shut up mate! I can imagine some of the super tuned Valvers,ie Ian B, ChrisMc, Barny,GVK, tubs to give them a run around the track but it depends on the drivers really. But recardo, can you handle RWD? and LHD? thats question Guys mainteneance comments without even owning one!? Always the way! Its all a load of bullpoo about requiring a replacement chain at 100k. The chain will never break, it may jump teeth but that is rare. You can replace the tensiioner with an e36 item which I have done which costs all of 50 quid. Also, i would seriously advise you not to buy a powerful rwd car until you have had some practice. They are very easy to lose in the wet Cheers Edited by: CabrioRags
i agree..whole rwd handling thing is an issue. I had a e30 325sport and almost wrapped round a post after leaving a roundabout. Edited by: Seraph
im sure the thrill of driving a bike fast and a car fast is very different! I am sure its not as satisfying wasting a car from the lights a bloomin R1 as you know you will beat anything... in a car its different!
Crazy power figures from modded cars isnt a fair comparision. If you used aftermarket management, remap, cat bypass and a 2.5 evo sport block you would see some some good power and torque figures out of the M
e36 328's are good cars but not really worth it I dont think as its an m3 or nothing he wants. Ido agree that the 328 will have a much cheaper insurance grouping than an m3!
Thing is Rags, our cars (well mine at least) aren't that highly tuned, scrapyard engine with a 350 head and assorted bits from other VAG cars. Nothing special. Edited by: G_V_K
well, it is really isnt it! its a 2litre 16v! so it is far from standard . A normal 16v wont really compete with yours, am i correct? If i upgraded my car to a 2.5block and pistons and fitted a flowed head and a few other assortments then it would be like for like and the dust would be eaten by the vw drivers. Now, I myself would get whipped round a track as I have limited experience on a track, but if you drove a tuned 2litre 16v and an e30 m3 modified as I stated, I guarantee you would get a quicker time with the M. This is providoing you can drive both cars equally well. Or i could just do an engine swap with my lawnmowerengine and pass recardo the keys. The you will have no chance Edited by: CabrioRags
rags I doubt youd be able to do all that without spending enough to buy tubs and gary's cars off them
I'm sure out of the 3 or 4 E30 M3s that were at Mallory with us, one of them had a decent driver, surely?
From the BMW forum those M3's came off 1 of them was running slicks and quite a track biased, tuned example with an experienced driver. 1 was standard and a track virgin (well, his 3rd track session). Not sure on the other 2. We passed them all.
I suppose but if it's the need for speed and not the need to race everyone is the issue, the R1 does the job.
oh and you have an advantage in the weight saviong stakes. You have no hair and my affro weighs a tonne!
