castor isnt adjustable... they are full of stories these places. im almost willing to be they didnt even touch the camber
what have you heard? i've only even heard good reports... when ever i go down there they are heaving with cars, and mainly car which have had some serious money spent on them (lots of evos, scoobies, older cossies / rs) but very rarely any chav ****, mainly really nice cars.. i know the owner but as they are not really a VAG specialist i wouldnt get anything done there, rather take it somewhere like the phirm if i had the money.
Just got mine done at Britannia tyres in nuneaton, great place, cheap and everyones sound. My car couldnt get on the ramp so the camber couldnt be done, and the tracking had to be done using this pad thing, but all sorted now. they tried forward and backwards afew times, bumper was scraping to **** espeically going forward. it caught on the D-rings when going backwards yay.
he means PE... thats strange ive head completely the opposite! ohh well its only tracking! like i said my car wont ever go near there for engine work anyway
was it just tracking that was done? drive nicer? im planning to take mine to Wales for Big Al to sort out lol
David Number 2 - I had my car done at Britannia in Nuneaton too, camber set to 0.75 deg neg, tracking at 0 deg. Have had it like this for over 5,000 miles now and the tyres have worn 'almost' equally across. My car's not lowered as much so it just made it onto the ramp. The ramps at the Cov branch are kinda sunk in to the ground so if they have the same kit there for tracking and camber, you would benefit from getting it set up. Cost = 15 squids an adjustment per side ..... (or 25 squids all in if you know one of the lads ).
they do camber for 15 squid a side... that is very good. places like ellite in essex want nearer a ton
this has opened a new can of worms for me now! went to PE after getting a call, they said only one of my tie rods had a nut on it which i thought was strange. so anyway on closer inspection i can see some numpty has fitted a tie rod off of a PAS model golf... so now im going to have to replace that before they will do it... also my cv boot has split. lovely! they had a nice 7 series in there and a nice e-class merc... them my old golf... still looks the *******s compared to those old gits cars
I'm a little bit confused by this. Manual racks have an adjustable tie-rod end on one side only. The length of the 'fixed' tie-rod on the opposite side is pre-set by means of a locknut where the tie rod is fixed to the rack. Hence this must be adjusted to a set measurement prior to the rack being fitted to the car, and thereafter adjustment is always made on one adjustable side only. So my response to the chap at the garage would be 'er yeah, and...?'. With the PAS rack, on the other hand, the tie-rods just screw into each side fully and the tie-rod ends are adjustable on both sides. You can see this on www.vagcat.com (not sure if you need to resister to view these): Manual rack PAS rack Have I misunderstood your post?
no you are correct so it should be like that... i was confused after looking at parts here http://www.vwspares.co.uk/g2steering.php i didnt have a diagram handy so thought both sides must be adjustable!! looks like the DB was right... ohh well its going to good old faithful mechanic next tuesday to get the CV boot done... thanks trev... you just saved me some (as i was going to buy a new tie rod off of that site)
