not yet ive got to get a few more things together then do all the brakes in one go i might get one of the Rally Design Brake Balance Bar Box's at the auto sport show and i need to buy new rear drums/clinders/shoes is it worth getting a bias valve fitted while im at it gary the disks are standard brembo 280s so far it has cost less then if i bought a 256 kit from raldes
Yes, essential. Balance bar is unlikely to get you to a sweet spot on its own. IMHO (and if you are using rear disks, esp Mk4 - *essential*), use a valve which has more than just a 50% restriction potential (edit: following another thread here, there are 38mm and 41mm pistons - avoid the 41mm ones like the plague which are the ones I had!!). Usual AP and Tilton 5 postion levers are not enough for cars piped front-rear on standard master cyls. Admittedly you have a pedal box, why take the risk of dropping 100 down the grid on a lever.
I'm planning my Mk2 GTI 20v Turbo conversion and plan to do quite a few track days. Has anyone fitted the Wilwood Golf Mk1/2 - SL4 - 310mm Vented Kit? Link http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath= 562_563_577&products_id=4016 If you have what are your thoughts? Does it require a brake bias adjuster too? Many thanks.
I have basically the same setup on my car,,,,the very same rally design pedal box, willwood dynalite 2's on g60 disks. It has been an absolute nightmare to get the pedal feel right without the servo. I have almost crashed may times......So now i have resorted to removing the brake pedal to drill another hole higher up the pedal nearer the pivot point to exert more leaverage onto the balance bar assembly. I am re assembling this week and will let you know what improvement......If you manage to get your pedal feeling right id love some advice!! I havent been too impressed with the willwoods either, the bleed fittings are imperial, fragile and tiny. once you have abused your brakes round a track a few times i found that the nipples shear off when you go to change/bleed the fluid!!! I have also had the pistons seize twice. Wish i had just got HISPECS now. Oh well!!
sorry mate can't see from here there is a template on bills site for the brembos, maybe there is a similar diagram on the Midlite site?
Rally Design will fax the dimensions on request, they did for my 256mm Midilite kit. Try here Rally Design for a 280mm for a MkII Edited by: rocco
I know the feeling, the only problem is that there is so much to spend money on, and always something new on the market.
Maximum bumpage. So for the shopping list: Wilwood Dynalite calipers (120-5093 1.38" 35.1mm 1.00" 25.4mm) are these the ones you ended up buying? VW G60 discs Ferodo DS2500 pads FRP502 Hotgolf brackets Brake Hoses Are there any issues with the pad and disc dimensions? Was the issue that is mentioned in this thread to do with a possible void between the pad and disc? Hotgolf, is it possible you could PM me a price for the exact same brackets as Altern8 had for these calipers? Cheers.
the list u got looks right the calipers i orderd are a bit too wide for the disks i think the smaller size down might be better
