Update! Bigger brakes are on hold for now. Sourced myself a SEAT Sport strut brace. Didn't like the 'in-yer-face' red, so sprayed it satin black & added a nice Skoda Motorsport decal. And some lovely Eibach Pro Dampers to match the Pro Kit springs that I've had for ages! Springs & damper should be fitted by the weekend! Depends if I get any ear ache from the other 'alf! Edited by: Jon TDI
Well, the Eibach's are on & they've totally transformed the car! Greatly reduced body roll & slightly stiffer ride, but not too much. It's dropped about 25mm all around, which just right IMO. Took about 7 hrs to fit front & rear, but the first 2 hrs was spent trying to find a M14 spline socket for removing the front hub/strut pinch bolt!!! And I didn't have a tool to open up the hub slot, so I had to use a bit of hammer time! Also, found out that it's best to slacken off the strut top nut BEFRORE you take the complete strut off the car! Me thinks a bit of thread lock had been used! The rears were easier & fairly straight forward. Haven't really tested how much of an improvement it's made yet. When's the next track day?!!! All in all, a worthwhile mod!!
Great stuff Jon! If I had to buy a new car, I think the Fabia would be near the top of my list. Think you could have a lot of track day fun with it, especially now ... Really interested to hear how you get on with the Eibach dampers. They look pretty good, although they apparently seem to be revalved Sachs/Boge units - for about 3x the price!
Hmm? Any tips on how to get a discount set for my Mk2 Golf? Does the fact that they are Sachs mean that they are the same bodies as Boge Turbogas dampers? I'd read that Sachs and Boge were the same things with different stickers on!
Got the dampers @ GTI International as a cash sale (No VAT to pay). The springs are second hand, so half the retail price, but only done 1K miles. Sachs/Boge are part of the same group.
Here's me (black one on the end!) & a few lads from Briskoda.net @ VW Festival. Now that the suspension is sorted, I've sourced myself some 312mm discs, calipers & carriers with pads from a TT quattro. Pics to follow.
Nice skoda mate. Why does nothing go wrong with it? Coz after all it's a vw in a different shell. Reliable and solid like all our Vw's. (MOST OF THE TIME)
Brakes arrived on Monday (bloody heavy box!!). From a 225bhp Audi TT Quattro. Absolutely mint condition (delivery mileage only) & even came with the flexi hoses! Not bad for 200! Need to paint green to achieve that standard vRS look! Apparently smooth green Hammerite is an almost perfect match.
heavy discs = bad thing, but bigger discs = good thing, so it even it out I think, as long as you don't notice anything in the handling. Looking good, love the TDi's.
Looks nice, seen one of those things fly past me up neer myn the other day with a dump valve, it was a tdi vrs or somwthing, but still sounded pretty nice! Sam
