Hello Everyone Well been running the T4 Transporter on Veg Oil for 18months now, it was a Straight Veg oil mix in the tank with only a heat exchanger fitted to heat the oil up. I up fitted a new battery and started motor to cope the the strain of starting when i was running 100% Veg Oil. But now winter is coming and the price of Diesel will never go down decided that rather than mixing 50/50 Oil/Derv I would fit a twin tank system. The system works by having a small 20litre marine fuel tank in the boot filled with 100% Diesel and the main tank filled with 100% veg oil. in the engine bay are 2 x 3way 12v solenoids , when starting the engine the solenoids are pulling fuel from the 20litre tank. Once warm the solenoids are switched and the fuel is pull from the main tank 100% veg oil. I Post some pix tomorrow but the whole DIY Kit cost under 150 The Fuel costs are - Diesel 1.20 per litre New Veg Oil 0.70 per litre from Makro Waste Veg Oil 0.20 per litre from local Chinese Takeaway. Been running on waste and new , the waste oil is good if you get a good supply.
i was lookig at something similar for a pd 150 bora, would make for interesting mpg figures plus the pricing is a bonus
My photobucket isn't working at the moment but here's the links for the kit. 3-way 12v solenoids http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-Way-Fuel-So...48268559?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM Heat Exchanger http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-new-Bio...=280534938694&ps=63&clkid=6253233110471218070 Fuel Tank http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110561769930&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT plus some 8mm ID Fuel pipe , cable and connectors etc.
Plumbing Diagram for the systems I fully fitted the system this morning in 2 hours, the kit work excellent and when switching from diesel to veg oil once the engine is warm the change is un-noticable. heat exchanger in action Two different plumbing systems single diesel feed, or diesel feed and return system. i have used the system feed from the diesel tank as this is easier and the Tank is in the rear of the T4. Wiring diagram , but i have switches the grounds instead of switching the 12v . Cheap motoring from now on and i can go back to using more WVO.
Yeah 100% Veg Oil A full tank of Diesel in the T4 was costing over 90 A full tank of Brand new veg oil is 56 A full tank of Wasted veg oil which i filter myself is 20 and i can do 500miles for that, so its well worth converting. Just keep a diary in the T4 with the amounts of veg oil used and mileage etc to keep VOSA happy. Install Pictures Diesel Tank (mounted under rock n roll bed) Engine Bay fuel filter are all within the battery bay. Heat exchanger, 2no solenoids and 2no fuel filters (factory filter and bio fuel filter) Control Switch mounted under dash, i will fit two indicator lights to show which fuel mode i'm in.
Brilliant write-up, thanks for doing it. I have a 1.9TD T4 now which I use as a daily, so I absolutely have to do this now that I've seen this thread. T4 vans are bloody excellent because it's so easy to do stuff like this on them. There's just so much room.
Wicked write up I have seen kits , but they were loads of money May well do the same to my a6 as I have been mixing it for 2 years on the tank and my car has the 5 pot van engine
Excellent. I run the KTC Veg oil in my 1.9 tdi 8v 110 on a 80/20 mix in summer and 50/50 in winter. Have you thought about making your own rapeseed oil yet.
Gone back to using WVO again now i have the twin tank set up, paying 20p per litre and filter it myself. just been playing with the set up and trying to figure out how long i need to purge the system, its turns out i've been purging it for too long and emptied the contents of the Diesel tank 20litres into the main tank by purging for too long on the last 5 trips. turns out i only need to purge for 1 min at the end of a trip. Turbo conversion next on my list for the T4
Yes got it strapped down did 20k miles last 12 months and its cost 800 i can do home to Santa Pod and back for 10 towing
50micron and then 1 micron , i need and old oil barrell so i can fit a 240v immersion heater element to heat it to 40deg c and then mix with abit of methanol. but at the moment its fine just by filtering.
It smells like a Zinger Burger when your at Traffic Lights Loads of info on here . http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum/index.php
Updated install. At high speed i wasn't getting enough fuel flow on VWO through the standard filter, so i have by passed that and the WVO goes through the Veg oil filter, the standard fuel filter is still used and is connected to the Diesel filter for start up. Heat Exchanger Fuel feed solenoid Fuel Return solenoid Veg oil filter New fuel pipes fitted Veg Oil Fuel Factory Transfer pump Filters 50micron 1 micron filling WVO Tank (a few zingers worth of veg oil)
Does the tank have a return connection? I can only see one outlet, but thought the WVO would need a return from the injection pump.
doesn't have a return but you can fit one. if you look closer at the schematic diagram the return for the diesel is tee'd into the feed pipe after the fuel feed solenoid.
