    Very good Brooky.

Do you need to tweak the injection pump at all for the turbo, seeing as it was originally for a NA application and lacks the boost aneroid pin?

One thing that I cannot remember is if there are any differences in the glow plugs for NA and turbo applications. I seem to recall something along those lines, it may have been relating to Peugeots.

i'm only running 0.5bar at the moment until intercooling is fitted next week, i'm also fitting an LDA on the pump for the fuel /boost increase.

i've just ordered everything for converting my mk3 tdi after reading this...

Do you have to add anything to veg oil if using the twin tank system or is that more for single tank systems as you are cold starting in veg oil?

Only Single Tank systems require the Veg Oil additives

Quality...I'm going to try using the o.e. filter for both fuels but use a return to the diesel marine tank...possibly with the return going through the cap ease of fitnemt?? Good idea??

i didn't use a Tank return for the second tank just tee'd in back into the supply line, which made purging the system easier

Cheers, where did you get the tee piece for the diesel return to feed loop from? Was it metal or plastic?

Great thread. Thinking about doing a twin tank on my old 5 cyl merc camper. It will stand around quite a bit of the year. Any issues with the veg oil ?. Or is that a stupid question

More thoughts. The second 20L fuel tank could do with some sort of gauge to give dashboard indication. Also, the heat exchanger looks small, any idea how much temp it adds?.
Mine is a crude mechanical system. My lift pump recently failed and left me a bit stranded. Nothing a tenner seal kit didnt fix, but it has to pull fuel 2.5M and uphill 0.5M. Is the viscosity of hot cooking oil similar to diesel?

You can purchase Fuel Level Gauges, also the Heat of the Oil will be same temperature as the coolant , my get quite hot.

But also you will need to switch back onto Diesel about 3 miles from the end of your journey to get the oil out of the system.

Time to fit the intercooler and increase the fuel , the fuel has been wound up

Had to remove the crimp off the screw, best way is to get a small flat screwdriver under the edge were it joins and force the screwdriver under with a hammer, that will split the crimp.

The a 13mm spanner to loosen the locking nut and then 6mm spanner to increase the fuel turning clockwise.

Gone for the mounting behind the grille , but now i've finished with i had fitted it at low level behind the bumper.

61mm cutter used as its all i had , 70mm would be better for the job.

Headlight needs trimming to clear the boost pipe.

Intercooler fitted and all boost pipes connected.

the grille needs alot of material removing to get it fitted, also the radiator needs setting back.

Been for a test drive and the van now pulls like a train , 0.5bar max at the moment and EGT's are below 500deg C. *<:-)>

I'm more than impressed with the conversion , i can now go camping or racing and not struggle up hills towing @ 40mph. [:D]

A few tweaks to finish off the Boost pipes, tried to make it look as Factory as possible may even paint the clamps black, and find some black bboost gauge pipe.

Run with the new set up and the EGT's are 570deg Max , and that's at max rpm & 0.6 bar so i'm comfortable with that. Just the exhaust that needs finishing may go for a full stainless side exit al also the adaptor onto the down needs making in 2" stainless. The down pipe is 2 1/2" so i could go for a full 21/2" system. T:

    Great thread! :-)
I'm hoping to do my trip to Wolfsburg and back on 100% cooking oil.
Baring a freak 'ice age' evolving, I should be OK at the end of May :-)

    Hi Brookster.

Pump not been rebuilt, but I'll ask Gilders to take a look at it.
In your experience, do you think I'll be OK using 100% cooking oil for my 1500 mile round trip??
It'll be the end of May. Warmer weather etc should help right?

I've read about the heat exchangers and what not but also about people not using them and being ok in warmer weather.

I'll be having all new fuel pipes and I'll also carry a couple of spare filters in the Wagen at all times.

Trying to keep costs down on vehicle, but reliability is of course paramount.
Any thoughts, tips and words of wisdom are welcome :-)

and thanks for offering to sponsor the Caddy :-)

I would definatley get a Heat Exchanger , i ran my injection pump on WVO for 2 year before it needed rebuilding so you will be ok will New Veg Oil , i get mine from Makro in Sheffield .

I'll have to pop round an see you in my T4 before you go

its only on a cold morning when you will find it hard to start , i used to boil the kettle and pour it onto the pump and lines to get it started [:D]
