How's the Veg oil setup working in this colder weather Brooky? Are you diluting it with any mineral diesel or additives to keep the veg oil nice and liquid?
I've done this conversion after reading this very thread...I put 40litres of wvo (rapeseed) on top of 'just in the red of the gauge' worth of diesel and I've had no issues, even at -4degrees C recently A big thanks for posting this brookster
I'm starting to think we need an 'alternative fuels FAQ' for the Diesel section. Loads of info on TDI Club, but it's far too detailed and full of conflicting info. It would be really useful to have it distilled down into: Which fuels and fuelling setups can be run with which types of car? What will work in Summer Vs Winter? What are the risks? What additional maintenance do you need to do (e.g. Fuel Filters)?
The T4 is running great starts first time every morning, i'm running on 95% SVO (Makro 95p per litre) 5% Petrol & 100ml Veggie Boost (Cetane Booster) i think the Fuel thread is a great idea moving forward , i've tried all the conversion twin tank etc. Twin Tank is Great as a Cheap way to convert , following my Pump rebuild to veg oil spec i can confirm that it was worth every penny and something anybody with a Bosch VE pump can have done. Also i think the Twin Tank is best suited for TDI Engines & PD's so you are starting on Diesel and ending on Diesel. But for my IDI Engine with no ECU etc i can run it on anything really I have run my Fabia 1.4TDI thats a PD on a 70/30 mix 70% Derv & 30% SVO but only in the summer . I'm just trying to get a new supplier for the Waste Veg Oil ready for the summer trips and reduce my Fuel costs.
I'd be interested in this too, recently having bought at 2.4d T4. Inspiring work by the way, Brookster
Frybrid Turbo T4 Test Drive Video 2 /12 TON of campervan c/w with commentary from the wife http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_YEhhKeGmk
Not having driven one, it's hard to tell, but I'm guessing it's a lot quicker than it was? Have you got before and after comparisons with the LPG part?
LPG isn't fitted yet Also don't have a video before and after , but i can confirm that on the hill the video was taken the Van wouldn't even get upto 50mph and that's with a clear run. On the video i can hit 60mph without any problem and that was after slowing down for the Micra There's another hill near me that i couldn' get over 30mph on , now i can hit 60mph in arround 10 secs from the traffic lights
GT4V - Update Don't know if i've mentioned this before - During the Winter i add 10% Petrol to thin the SVO out but also add Veggie Boost to increase the cetane rating . http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=35&products_id=29
Bump... do you find the Veggie boost pays for itself in MPG, or do you just prefer the driving experience on it?
You can tell the difference with Veg/Petrol mix and Veg/Petrol + Veggie Boost Does it pay for itself ? i can't answer that one as i've done so many other mods that have improved MPG. I don't use it in the summer as i don't thin the Veg Oil with Petrol
Purge time at the end of the journey on a twin tank set up is key...I had mine completely wrong and did 650miles with 3/4 of a tank of wvo left...I then realised that I had used 50litres of diesel in this time...purge time with the 3way valves right beside the fuel pump was one minute at idle...I had been driving for 8-9minutes on purge so effectively topping the wvo tank up with diesel after every journey. As with anything, its trial and error but I seriously can't recommend twin tanking enough...my journey to work is 21 miles, diesel wise, I'm doing 3miles on the warm up phase and 1 minute purge at the end of the journey, the rest is on 75p a litre processed 90/10 rapeseed/veg oil
Veggie Powered T4 2.4D Turbo first time on the rollers 119BHP @ FLYWHEEL & 191LB/FT 100BHP @ WHEELS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYu1aBS9n0s So the final results show no effects of performance when running 100% SVO and the Turbo conversion has doubled the power at the wheels with the potential for more power
Man, you must be so chuffed! Almost as chuffed I was today when gilders got the caddy thru its mot :-) With any luck I'll be on the road by Friday, just in time for mums birthday and the rallye golf show at elsecar on bank holiday. Can't wait to start using veg oil :-)
