I just loved the look of mk1 golfs and found mine, 1st car I looked at and had to have it This car inspired me, loved how tough it looked. And the wheel size obviously inspired me too
The local motorclub autotests 30 years ago! Mk1 Lotus Cortina - white with green flash smoking its tyres Avenger Tiger - yellow with black flash smoking it's tyres A very welathy neighbour's sons ferari Dino 246GTS - pure music!
can someone please explain the infatuation with that car, it comes up as peoples fave golf ever time and again, and i just cant see why?!
It was the first race-inspired show-car, and was built with such attention to race-car detail. Magnesium Speedline wheels, multi-point cage. For anyone now into track days, that car was one of the original hard-as-nails 'racers'.
The 2 veedubs that have inspired me the most are Riley's mk1 and Danny Allen's orange mk 1 they made me want one of my own.
Artie Loft's candy blue mk1, Ian (smiler) Brimlow (??) lime green mk2 vr. Various beetles/ ghia's/splitties etc as i was into (still am) air cooled stuff. the silver mk2 above.

I think you'll find that you with your own threads & altern8 with his old revivals are far worse than me one car i remember was TSR's 1st vr6 turbo with the bonnet vent over by the wing?
It's cool to see someone else comment on this car at last! I shall have to try and get the original article scanned out of the old Golf magazine I have. It is still the car that inspires me several years on. I'd like to know what happened with it.
